This has been a big week for the United Kingdom. The people of Scotland voted in a historic referendum to decide whether or not they wanted to become an independent country. As you no doubt heard about in the wider media, the vote was split 55/45 in favour of remaining in the Union with the other home nations. We didn’t want to let such a momentous event in our nation’s history go by without some acknowledgment, hence why we’ve made a Sunday Spotify Slaylist of some of our favourite Scottish bands.

A few years ago, the UK festival scene kind of imploded. Industry experts said there were just too many events trying to compete for the same slices of pie – there was only so many festivals that punters could afford to go to. Well, the situation has changed a bit since then, with smaller, more localised festivals popping up to fill the void left by the absence of some of major players in the festival circuit.
Step forward Burn Out Festival.

The day after their set on the Third stage at Download estival 2013, Bleed From Within won ‘Best New Band’ at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods. That kind of makes them a big deal. Come look at our photo gallery of them so you’ll be able to recognise them when they’re all rich multi-millionaire rockstars.

MEGADAVE. We’ll never get tired of calling Dave Mustaine that. No matter how many stupid things he says off stage, no matter how many awful new Megadeth albums called Super Collider that he puts out, and no matter how many onstage temper tantrums he throws because he’s unhappy with the stage lighting, no matter how many homophobic slurs he wants to throw at people who’ve paid money to go watch him play live – despite all of that, he’ll still always be MegaDave.

Bleed From Within

Up to this point, conversations among metal fans about Bleed From Within probably went something along these lines:
“Do you like Bleed From Within?”
“I’ve never listened to them, to be honest.”
It’s not the ideal reaction a band is looking for but the Glasgow lads have never quite been able to make that big an impact.

Bloody heck, that’s an awful lot of new bands to add all at once. Not that we’re complaining, mind you – the less inane line-up announcement news pieces we have to try to find new and inventive intros to write for is always a welcome development here at Thrash Hits. You can check the full list of additions to the Download Festival 2013 line-up after the jump.

After the drooling adulation we threw at Sylosis‘ new album Edge Of The Earth, you might think the chances of us missing their headlining show in London were worse than the odds of a Nickelback cover band surviving a support slot on a Slayer tour. And you would be correct. Here’s a bumper crop things we found out from tonight.
