Oh it’s been away for a while, but Sonisphere Festival has returned to the UK and is less than one whole week away. We cannot wait. We are excited. There are loads of our favourite bands playing at the magnificent Knebworth Park, which is why in time-honoured tradition, we’ve gone and made ourselves a Sunday Spotify Slaylist of some of the bands we really want to see next weekend to get us well and truly in the mood for Sonisphere’s comeback weekend.
Comeback Kid is a Canadian hardcore band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Formed in 2000, the band is signed to Victory Records. Their name comes from a headline in a newspaper about hockey player, Mario Lemieux coming back to the NHL. The band was formed in 2002 by Andrew Neufeld and Jeremy Hiebert who were both members of the band Figure Four, which is currently on hiatus. They were joined by their friends Scott Wade and Kyle Profeta, but CBK was originally intended only to be a side project. Read more on Last.fm

Those Sheffield tykes, Bring Me The Horizon, played their biggest headline shows to date when they took on two nights in a row at London’s infamous Brixton Academy. Tomas Doyle was in town to check out Oli Sykes and co.’s first night.

This weekend would’ve been the fifth Hevy Festival…but as you no doubt know by now, the festival was forced to cancel their event this year. They tried to schedule a replacement all-dayer at the Brixton Academy here in London, featuring some of the biggest bands on this year’s (cancelled) bill…but as you also know by now, they had to cancel that too.
It’s not been the best year for Hevy Festival, truth be told.

Ronseal headline does what it says on the tin – it’s been confirmed today that Hevy 2013 won’t be festival in the camping-outside-stages-in-a-field way at all, but rather will take the form of a series of gigs taking place in and around London.

Propagandhi, Comeback Kid and Shai Hulud playing on the same bill is as good a punk line-up as 2013 gigs are likely to see. With that in mind, we sent Tom ‘You Are Not Better Than Pop Music‘ Doyle along to review said line-up when it came to London earlier this week.
Six Things we learned when we saw Propagandhi headline in London:

It’s nice having a genuine fist-pumping, bridge and tunnel New Jersey boy in our ranks. That Dan Pelic is one of our writers means that we can review things like The Bamboozle Festival with ease. Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi and… Skrillex headline the three-day event and it’s on A BEACH. Cool.
WARNING: Dan’s in a bad mood.

For a moment there it looked for all the world like Comeback Kid were heading down the same career path as late 90s/early 00s melodic hardcore heroes Stretch Arm Strong. Fast, catchy, posi sound? Check. Breakout album leading to more “mainstream” success? Check. Revolving door of member ins and outs? Check.
