Corrosion of Conformity

Founded by three teenagers in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1982, Corrosion of Conformity began as an hardcore / punk band and went on to transform heavy music, challenging boundaries and serving as what Decibel Magazine called “a crucial stylistic lynchpin in the bridge between metal and punk” that “irrevocably reshaped crossover’s sonic possibilities.”

Thirty years and many changes later, COC’s original trio is back with a self-titled release for London-based independent Candlelight Records. Read more on Last.fm

Lest we forget, Pepper Keenan’s almost defacto appointment post-‘Vote With A Bullet’ to the position of lead vocalist of Corrosion Of Conformity was greeted with a huge collective cheer. And as nice as it’s been to see this CoC line-up play shows, and as nostalgically-pleasing as it was to get an album from them, I don’t think I’m alone in wanting the four-piece CoC to make a return now, am I? Keenan-keening aside, IX doesn’t even nearly scratch that itch, but the highs do handily outweigh the lows of yet another Pepper-free excursion.

Corrosion of Conformity, Black MothDarkane, GOLDSBORO, Sound Storm, CollisionsCypher16Huron, Maplerun and Dead Existence have been added to the Hammerfest 2014 line-up today. No, we don’t care about most of those bands either, but we care very much about Corrosion of Conformity and Black Moth, which makes this announcement a winner in our eyes.

They join the already announced Kreator, Overkill, Soilwork, Grand Magus, Unleashed, Earthtone9, Breed 77, Enthroned, Paragon, Annihilated, and Gravil on Hammerfest’s 2014 line-up. Tickets are on sale now from the official Hammerfest website, with the price varying on how many people you want in your room.

DesertFest 2012 Sunday Spotify Slaylist Thrash Hits

With all the brouhaha regarding summer outdoor festivals, we somewhat neglected a springtime indoor one that’s taking place on our very doorstep – DesertFest. Today is the third and final day of the first London incarnation of the festival, where more than 50 stoner, doom, spacerock and sludge bands have been giving the foundations of Camden Town a solid shake-up. If – like us – you had to miss this year’s festival, you can at least console yourself with the Spotify Slaylist we’ve made in the festival’s honour.

Corrosion of Conformity 2011 promo photo Thrash Hits

We’ve always had the nagging feeling that Corrosion of Conformity are a band that will never quite get the success that they deserve. Satan knows, despite two hiatuses and a active lifespan of more than 20 years, the North Carolina metallers haven’t got the respect (or bank balances) that so many of their peers have. It was all we could do to make sure that Gary Wolstenholme was on hand to snap them in the act when they bulldozed the Sheffield Corporation last week.
