Decapitated

Decapitated is a technical death metal band from Poland. They formed in 1996 in Krosno in southern Poland, when all the members were still attending music school.

They released their first demo Cemeterial Gardens in 1997 and their second demo, The Eye of Horus in 1998. After these releases, the band was considered as genuine contenders of the underground metal community, and eventually signed with Wicked World/Earache Records for the release of the debut album, Winds of Creation. When guitarist Vogg resurrected Decapitated following the tragic road accident in 2007 that shattered the band, he could have chosen to keep doing the same things that had made Decapitated as big as they are. The 2011 release of Carnival is Forever was definitely not the result of such a decision. Blood Mantra is another step down that path, away from the sounds of traditional death metal.

Sunday Slaylist: Bloodstock Open Air 2014

Bloodstock Open Air 2014 Sunday Slaylist Thrash Hits

There’s less than a week to go until the Midlands once again plays host to the UK’s biggest outdoor unabashed metal festival. Make no mistake – Bloodstock Open Air carries no caveats about being a “rock” festival. It is about being the heaviest fully-camping festival the UK has to offer, and their 2014 line-up – stuffed to the guts with death, black, and extreme metal – sets the festival apart from the larger Download and Sonisphere Festivals. That’s not a bad thing – a little variety goes a long way in the saturated UK festival market – so naturally this week’s Sunday Spotify Slaylist is all about the Bloodstock 2014 line-up.

Lamb of God by Gobinder Jhitta Birmingham O2 Academy 17 January 2014 Thrash Hits

It’d be fair to say that 2013 is probably a year that Randy Blythe from Lamb of God would like to forget, having spent much of it dealing with his trial and subsequent acquittal for manslaughter of Czech fan of his band, Daniel Nosek. They’ve certainly not wasted any time getting their 2014 off to a running start, hitting Europe for a 14-date extension to their long-running Resolution tour. We sent Gobinder Jhitta down to Birmingham to catch Randy and co.

Earache Is 25 Part 3 Thrash Hits

We’ve reached the mid-point of our retrospective across the 25 year history of Earache Records, and today we’re revisiting our own formative years with the label – that confusing period for metal from the late 90s through to the dawn of the new millenium. Today we’re tacking records from Iron Monkey, Cathedral, AxCx, Decapitated and….err….Mortiis, so it does go to show that not the entire metal world was embracing wallet chains and baggy jeans during this era.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 005: The Randy Blythe Situation

July 5th, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

Raz is once again absent (his jetsetter lifestyle means he’s off in Berlin to catch Pearl Jam), so this week Hugh is once again joined by Tom Dare, and this week by another Tom from the Thrash Hits writers roster – Tom Doyle. Yes, he’s the Tom Doyle that Lower In Atlantis threatened at headbutt that time. No, he’s not the Tom Doyle who’s a member of Don Broco.

This week’s topics of conversation include recent gigs by Evile, Decapitated and *shels, but mostly we just talk about the Randy Blythe/manslaughter situation that has gotten most of the metal internet up in arms one way or the other over the last 7 days.

Top 10s of 2011: Hugh Platt

December 9th, 2011

Hugh 2011 End Of Year

When we wrote the intro to our Deputy Editor’s Top 10 Records last year, we joked that he’s a surly so-and-so who doesn’t like anything and enjoys nothing. This isn’t true. This year, for example, he took a worrying amount of pleasure from the torrent of abuse levelled at him by fans of Five Finger Death Punch. He also liked far, far more records than our strict album-of-the-year voting rules would allow, but after much deliberation he narrowed them down to this – his Top 10 Records of 2011.

The pimply-faced internet junkies who doubted the fruits of this reincarnation on the metal message boards are most likely going to be lauding this release and feverishly trying to delete their past postings. It’s just that fucking good.

From the brilliant mind that put Behemoth and Lady Gaga together comes a mashup of Beastie Boys… and Decapitated. Yes, Decapitated.

July 7th, 2010

There is a particular twisted genius who has been posting mashups of metal and pop on YouTube for the last six months. Not content with melding Lady Gaga to Meshuggah, Soilwork  and Behemoth, this brilliant individual has once again crafted something wonderful. And completely insane.
