'Devil Sold His Soul' is a band formed in London, England in 2004. Paul Kitney (samplers), guitarists Richard Chapple, Jonny Renshaw and original drummer Tom Harriman formed the initial musical core of the band, the four having previously collaborated in Mahumodo. It didn’t take long for the fledgling band to flesh out their line up with the addition of bassist Iain Trotter and vocalist Ed Gibbs.

Burn Out Festival Slaylist Thrash Hits

A few years ago, the UK festival scene kind of imploded. Industry experts said there were just too many events trying to compete for the same slices of pie – there was only so many festivals that punters could afford to go to. What do get when you mix four Belgians, Milton Keynes tech metallers, some Welwyn Garden City hardcore kids and Devil Sold His Soul? The Metal Hammer 2012 Razor Tour, of course. And while it’s one of the less obvious four-band touring bills around, Tom Dare thought it looked like a good one, so we sent him off to Camden to review it. From which he came back half-blind.

Earlier this week, Damnation Festival announced Hawk Eyes, Ravens Creed and The Atrocity Exhibit as the final three bands for their 2012 line-up, and my, what a killer line-up it is too. Headed up by Dorset doom overlords, Electric Wizard, this year’s Damnation Festival also sees Pig Destroyer make their first return to the UK in eight years – why the hell haven’t you bought a ticket already? If you have bought a ticket already: well done. You know the score.

Picking up from where they left off with 2010’s Blessed & Cursed (via a slight line-up alteration), they have released another hour-long collection of atmospheric hardcore. If they learned how to control the chaos on said last record, this album sees DSHS use their skills to even greater effect.
