Dying Fetus on Thrash Hits

Is calling Dying Fetus a reliable death metal band a backhanded compliment? We don’t mean it to be, because they sure as hell delivered what we wanted (and expected) at Bloodstock Open Air 2013.

In just four weeks time, arguably the “most metal” (whatever that means) of the UK summer festival season takes place: Bloodstock Open Air. This week we’re turning over the Sunday Slaylist to something a little different – we want you to go buy something. On Monday 18 February, Pat Egan, Relapses Records’ Director of Retail Sales, died following a the result of complications with a case of pneumonia. To raise money for Pat’s daughter’s college fund, the folks over at Relapse have gone and put together a compilation of 20 of the finest bands ever to have worked with the label – and we think it’d be a damn fine gesture if a few of our readers joined us in buying it, in recognition of the awesome music Pat helped bring us over the years, as well as to help out the family of a fellow metal fan when they need it most.

Here’s what we found out from this orgy of brutality.

There’s gore-grind, there’s death metal, then there’s Cannibal Corpse. When it comes to songs about doing unspeakable things to dead bodies with power tools and/or penises, they’re pretty much the daddies. So when the guts-obsessed five-piece hammered Sheffield flat yesterday, we made sure our top photographer, Gary Wolstenholme was down at the front to capture George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher and co up close and personal.
