Every Time I Die

Every Time I Die is a five-piece Metalcore band from Buffalo, New York, founded in the winter of 1998. Though popularly classified as hardcore, Every Time I Die's sound also contains strong elements of metalcore, southern rock and mathcore. Beginning with a noisy, chaotic hardcore sound, subsequent releases increasingly added fat grooves and twin leads to the mix, with each album treading different ground. They are also acclaimed for Keith Buckley's intelligent and often cryptic lyrics. Read more on Last.fm

Interview: Every Time I Die – Keith Buckley on Ex Lives, his singing and Jesus

When we interviewed the Buckley brothers at the tail end of 2009 in a dingy room backstage at Hammersmith Apollo, Every Time I Die had just released their fifth album, New Junk Aesthetic. We asked them to rate all their albums and they were remarkably honest. Despite looking back fondly on 2003’s Hot Damn! and especially 2007’s Big Dirty, Keith was less than convincing on his appraisal of the latest one.

That’s not an issue with Ex Lives. Just like pretty much anyone who’s taken the time to listen to it, he loves it.

Top 6: Raz’s Every Time I Die t-shirts

It’s the way bands make a lot of their money. It’s a way of proudly displaying that you like a band. It’s a piece of clothing that every right-thinking person owns at least one of. Yeah, the humble band t-shirt. I have two deep drawers full of the damned things. Six of which have Every Time I Die emblazoned upon them. Here’s a crap story about how I came to own them all…

It’s a tough question, isn’t it? “Who’s your favourite band?” It’s tough because you listen to a different band depending on how you’re feeling. Well, I’ve listened to this album over 100 times. That’s not some throwaway, hyperbolic platitude you’re reading. I’ve listened to this album over a hundred times. I feel confident in saying that Every Time I Die are one of my favourite bands. But why?

Live & Photos: Every Time I Die @ London Electric Ballroom – 30 November 2011

Every Time I Die are one of my favourite bands in the world. They encapsulate everything that is good about heavy music. Riffs, melody, excellent merch. I wouldn’t own six ETID tshirts otherwise.

Is that excessive? No – they’re all awesome shirts. Is this going to be a balanced, honest review? It’s the only way. Was I drunk? No – it was the first time sober at an ETID show and I was scared. Especially when I nipped out for a cigarette and had to bustle my way past half a dozen handbags (after they’d hit me in the belly, of course) and then the very ample smoking area was full. What was this madness? So many women. So much cancer. Every Time I Die!

Six things we found out when we saw ETID in Camden:

What do we know?

  • Rob Caggiano (bass) and Scott Ian (guitar) from Anthrax are heading up this supergroup which also contains Andy Hurley (drums) and Joe Trohman (other guitar) from currently-on-hiatus Fall Out Boy with Every Time I Die’s Keith Buckley on vocals.
  • They’re demoing songs right now while ETID are in Europe.
  • They have a logo but took it down when news about the band leaked upon this horrible Internet.
  • Nothing else.

Interview: Every Time I Die’s Keith Buckley on new supergroup, The Damned Things, making loads of money and getting naked in front of schoolkids

November 30th, 2009

Having released one of 2009’s best records plus the recent announcement of a supergroup with Anthrax and Fall Out Boy, Every Time I Die‘s Keith Buckley is on a high so what better time to send Chris Cope out for a cosy chinwag on the band’s bus in Glasgow while they’re here on the Taste Of Chaos tour?

Last time you came to UK you were supporting Gallows, and this time you’re supporting Killswitch Engage and In Flames. Are you getting tired of opening for bands when you come here?
“Not really, this is a Taste Of Chaos tour and it’s done by the guys who do the Warped tour. We haven’t done this yet so we’re not gonna be pricks about it. If we get offered it, we take it. That’s pretty much the way of our touring for us.”

Try talking about Every Time I Die without calling something, somewhere southern-fried (or a permutation thereof) is nigh on impossible. Indeed, talk about something, somewhere that is southern-fried (or a permutation thereof) and it is nigh on impossible not to at least think of either ETID. Or chicken. Obviously.
