In just four weeks time, arguably the “most metal” (whatever that means) of the UK summer festival season takes place: Bloodstock Open Air. To get ourselves in the mood for a weekend of wearing denim vests and drinking mead out of horn, we’ve put together a gigantic Sunday Spotify Slaylist, featuring the best of this year’s line-up.
Firewind is a Greek heavy metal band that was originally created as a way for guitarist Gus G. to market his demo album Nocturnal Symphony in 1998. They became a full band over three years later when they recorded Between Heaven and Hell. The band line-up changed between each album until the final change after their fifth, Allegiance. Not wanting to be left behind in the big game of announcing-your-2013-headliners-as-early-as-possbile, today Bloodstock Open Air confirmed that King Diamond will be headlining the Friday night of their festival next year. The King join the previously-announced quartet of Anthrax, Fozzy, Firewind and Accept over on the bill over at Catton Hall, which in 2013 takes place on the weekend of 08-11 August. Early Bird Weekend Tickets are on sale now for the bargain price of £100, so if you want to save a few quid for a new Merciful Fate t-shirt in time for next August, now would be a good time to cough up some cash.

Fans of noodly power metal have had a tough time in 2010. Thank fuck for Firewind, who return from working with Michael Amott’s Spiritual Beggars project and Ozzy Osbourne to blow away the cobwebs with their usual aplomb.
