Fucked Up is a hardcore punk band from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The band formed and played their first shows in early 2001. The initial practicing lineup consisted of 10,000 Marbles (Guitar), Concentration Camp (Vocals), and Mustard Gas (Bass Guitar). Just prior to recording their demo tape, Concentration Camp moved to guitar and vocal duties were taken over by Pink Eyes (also known as Mr. Damian). Drums are played by Mr. Jo (also credited as G. Beat or J. Falco) and Young Governor was added as a third guitarist in 2007. Read more on Last.fm

There’s this weird position that Fucked Up occupy in the monder punk-rock pantheon, with their fans falling somewhere between that of punks who’ve graduated from entry-level nonsense, and hipsters looking for just a tiny taste of hardcore judos to declare as one of their own. When the band played their own show here in London – co-headlined by Titus Andronicus and supported by Metz – we sent Ollie Connors along to see how that middle ground is working out for them.

So it’d be fair to say that Thrash Hits isn’t just a fairly UK-centric kind of website most of the time, but also a fairly London-centric UK-centric kind of website a damn near awful lot of the time. Huh. We figured we ought to do something about that. Which is why we called upon our man out in the far east, Tom Gibbons, to venture out to catch Fucked UpGallows, and Beijing-based Fanzui Xiangfa when they rolled into Hong Kong. Yes, Hong Kong in the People’s Republic of China.

Year of the Tiger

by Alex Andrews

Given that their last commitment to tape was an 82-minute ‘rock opera’, chronicling the haphazard love life of an English factory worker, you could be forgiven for thinking that Fucked Up had exhausted all channels for experimentation. You’d be wrong, of course, as the latest instalment from the band’s largely hit-and-miss Zodiac series may well be their finest to date.

Sunday Spotify Slaylist: Hevy Festival 2010

August 8th, 2010

I shouldn’t be writing this right now. Right about now, I should be waking up in a tent at Hevy Festival down in Kent, getting ready for Sepultura, Sylosis, Turbowolf, and all the other kick ass bands playing later today. Instead, thanks to a series of unfortunate fuck-ups I won’t bore you with the details of here, I’m stuck in London, and not at the final day of Hevy Festival. And I’m compounding my misery with this Slaylist.

March 7th, 2009

When the amazing hardcore extravaganza, Shred Yr Face II tour hit the penultimate date at the Brighton Concorde, Andy Parker was there for Thrash Hits with his camera and notepad. He had quite a good time.

Tonight I am exhausted. Never have I felt so run ragged by an act, so to be kept on my toes by two of the US’s finest exports is a pleasure.

The Shred Yr Face II Tour finds its way to the windswept coastline stopping for chips and dohnuts at Concorde2, Brighton.
