There are at least 6 artists named Ginger.

1. Ginger is the lead singer and driving force behind The Wildhearts, once described by Kerrang! magazine as "the finest English Songwriter of his generation". As a solo artist, he has released 3 solo studio albums: Valor Del Corazón (2006), Yoni (2007) and Market Harbour (2008). Prior to these he also penned a series of monthly-released singles in 2003 (these were later compiled as the album A Break in The Weather in 2005). Read more on Last.fm

Best of 2013: Top 6 Opinion

January 14th, 2014

BEST-OF-2013-Opinion

By pretty much any metric we care to think about, 2013 was a great year for Thrash Hits. If we look over the raw numbers, it was our most successful year ever, with more people reading the site, more people coming back to the site, and more people sticking around and actually reading our stuff than ever before. Seeing how every other website these days seems to be degenerating to nothing more than clickbait listicles with “You won’t believe…”-style headlines, we think that last point is of particular importance.

Before we really get our teeth into 2014, we thought we’d make our holiday slacking last another couple of days by looking back at the content from the last twelve months that helped make it our best ever year. First up: our top 6 opinion pieces.

Why does Ginger Wildheart care so much about Kerrang!?

July 30th, 2013

hey hello Victoria Liedtke Ginger Wildheart promo photo wildhearts 2013 kerrang

Sunday evening saw Ginger from The Wildhearts get to #1 in the UK Rock Charts with his new band, Hey! Hello!. That’s a pretty big deal but instead of celebrating his success, the ever-outspoken Ginger chose to take to Twitter to berate Kerrang! for not featuring his band, even going so far as to call for James McMahon’s resignation as editor of the magazine.

It stems from an apparent rejection from the magazine but descends into trolling at best; bullying at worst. At the heart of the issue is a man who loves a brand but hates what he thinks they’ve become. Kerrang!, whether it likes or believes it, covers music for a younger demographic than it used to and youth is always sneered at and looked down upon. Without that, teenage angst wouldn’t exist and neither, probably, would Kerrang!. Hey! Hello! (who are now added to the list of annoying names when writing a Word document that automatically capitalises the first letter after a punctuation mark) feel that the magazine should change to fit them in.

Download Festival have announced a veritable swathe of additional acts that will be gracing their festival at Donington Park this Summer. Is there anything better than a Thrash Hits Festival Splash Page? Yeah, loads of things but you won’t find the best online festival coverage on any of them. You’ll find that right here.

All our work from Sonisphere Festival 2011 is going be linked to from this page (eventually), so give it a bookmark or just don’t close it, because it’s all you’re going to need. Individual band coverage (interviews, photos, setlists and some tiny reviews), rumours, drinking games, stage times, dodgy photos of as many sexy ladies in various states of safe-for-work undress as we can legitimately get away with? It’s all here.

Sonisphere Festival 2011: Ginger Wildheart @ Bohemia Stage – Saturday, 09 July 2011

July 19th, 2011

Yeah, yeah – that’s a promo picture of The Wildhearts, when technically it was just “Ginger Wildheart” performing. It’s the nicest photo we’ve got of him. Maybe we should’ve added some corpse-paint with photoshop though, to match his stage-attire for his Sonisphere Festival performance?

Events
For those of you lucky enought to live alongside Thrash Hits in London town, tonight sees the launch of Someone’s Yelling Fire, a new punk/hardcore/metal/screamo/emo night at the recently-reopened Highbury Garage. Get there early enough and you’ll be able to catch live sets from The Xcerts, Save Your Breath and Flood of Red. Get their later, and you get to see Thrash Hits staffers collapse at the bar following an excess of beers. Double trouble! And just a fiver to boot.
