Girlschool started in 1975 when Enid Williams (Bass, Vocals) and Kim McAuliffe (Rhythm Guitar, Vocals) formed an all girl rock covers band called Painted Lady in South London.

Kelly Johnson and Denise Dufort later joined and in April 1978 they changed their name to Girlschool.

Their first single Take it all away was released on the City Records label which led to them gaining a Motörhead support slot on the Overkill tour in 1979.

More Bloodstock Festival news: Girlschool added to the bill

The ladies and gentlemen over at are reporting that Girlschool are the latest addition to the Bloodstock Festival line-up. It was Girlschool’s 30th anniversary last year – that’s longer than most of us here at Thrash Hits have been alive.

Tickets for Bloodstock 2009 are on sale now from the festival’s official website for a recession-busting £99.95 + the usual fees. The festival is once again taking place at Catton Hall, Derbyshire, from August 14-16. It’s gonna be a KICK-ASS weekend.
