There are multiple artists called Gojira;

1) Gojira is a metal band from Bayonne, France. Their lyrics focus on life, ecology, and spiritual themes. They were formed in 1996 by brothers Joe Duplantier (vocals and lead guitar) and Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (guitar) and Alexandre Cornillon (bass guitar). Cornillon left the band in 2001 and Jean-Michel Labadie became their bass player. Genres that they have been associated with over their career include death metal, progressive metal, thrash metal and groove metal. Read more on Last.fm

The Thrash Hits Podcast 003: Nergal vs Kate Nash

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

Raz couldn’t make it to “the studio” for episode 003 of the Thrash Hits podcast, so this week we got everyone’s favourite long-haired fantasy-nerd hipster, Tom Dare, to sit in instead. This week’s topics see us breaking down the new albums from Gojira and Linkin Park, mouthing off about Kate Nash’s…errr…new direction, and see us manage to say something so offensive we felt the need to bleep it out. It’s all downhill from here.

Gojira have such a pedigree that they’ve had a superlative created especially for them. In some circles, exceptional events are described as “Gojiramazing” (Google it if you want). The phrase stems from the French quartet’s ability to always perform to a jaw-dropping standard, whether that be live or on record.

Is there anything better than a Thrash Hits Festival Splash Page? Yeah, loads of things but you won’t find the best online festival coverage on any of them. You’ll find that right here.

All our work from Sonisphere Festival 2011 is going be linked to from this page (eventually), so give it a bookmark or just don’t close it, because it’s all you’re going to need. Individual band coverage (interviews, photos, setlists and some tiny reviews), rumours, drinking games, stage times, dodgy photos of as many sexy ladies in various states of safe-for-work undress as we can legitimately get away with? It’s all here.

Roving Thrash Hits photographer, Gary Wolstenholme only went and found himself in a French nature reserve last weekend. When he wasn’t eating baguettes, Boursin and red, red wine, whilst getting massaged on an organic sunlounger, Gary was attending Eurockéennes Festival. Luckily he had a camera to take loads of photos of bands like Slipknot and Gojira. Not bad.

After giving their latest album, The Way Of All Flesh full marks late in 2008, it’s not exactly a revelation that we’re quite fond of the French death metal monsters, Gojira.

In fact, we’ll go as far as to call them Gojiramazing and suggest that the OED incorporate that into their next edition because seeing as the Bayonne quartet have raised the bar for every other metal band out there, we’re incorporating the word into our own vernacular, here at Thrash Hits.

After breaking through with their astounding third album, From Mars To Sirius, the well-read French quartet are back with another crushing slab of progressive death metal. And yes, once again there is a profound message underneath their mesmeric tones.
