iwrestledabearonce are a band from Shreveport, Louisiana that utilizes a variety of genres and musical influences. The band incorporate various styles of music and shuffle through them rapidly but they do maintain an overall melodic metalcore sound with electronica influence. Since their formation in 2007, they've released one self-titled EP within the same year via Tragic Hero Records and two full-length albums, It's All Happening and Ruining It for Everybody, in 2009 and 2011 respectively, via Century Media. Sunday Slaylist: Hevy Festival 2014

Hevy Festival 2014 Sunday Slaylist Thrash Hits

There’s just over a month to go until Hevy Festival 2014 marks the festival’s return to Port Lympne Wild Animal Park down in Kent. After – let’s be honest, a fairly disasterous turn of events in 2013 that saw the festival cancelling and taking a year off – the festival is back, with a new focus and energy behind it. It might not have the size or chequebook to match Download or Sonisphere, but the return of Hevy to the UK festival calendar is definitely something we can get behind – which is why this week’s Sunday Spotify Slaylist is all about their 2014 line-up.

Heterogeneous quintet jokers, iwrestledabearonce, have finally decided to ripen in their third, slightly more structured than usual studio album Late for Nothing. It’s still an indecisive stew of styles and incontrollable outbursts; it’s just more organized than usual. Their could-care-less attitude persists but, musically they’ve taken themselves a bit more serious and upped their game.

The Thrash Hits Cloudcast 005: 05-11 August 2013

Thrash Hits Cloudcast 005

In this week’s Cloudcast, Hugh’s recording solo is what appears to be an underground cavern – get your goddamn reverb sorted out, Hugh! Anyway, once again we’re running through some of our favourite tracks from the albums getting released this week, and close the show with a triple-bill of tracks from the headline acts from Bloodstock Open Air 2013, which is taking place this weekend.

If You Buy One Thing This Week: Late For Nothing by iwrestledabearonce

You know how you think iwrestledabearonce are all SUPER-WACKY and that? Well, their new album, Late For Nothing, is probably their least weird so far. Okay, so there is that one song that features Steve Vai and some mariachi ditties, but then we did say “least weird”, rather than “not weird”. Anyway, it’s still very much the sound of band that’s still not limited by not just the template of heavy music in general, but by the template they might’ve set themselves with their earlier records. That’s why it’s this week’s pick for If You Buy One This This Week.

Although it’s been a month since Ruining It For Everybody, the second album from Louisiana-bred noiseniks iwrestledabearonce, was unleashed upon a widely-unsuspecting public, the words needed to polish off this review have eluded me until now. The simple fact of the matter is that I’ve been unable to sit down and absorb Ruining It For Everybody in the precise and collected manner I usually apply in order to assess and evaluate a record up for review.

Let me tell you why this is a good thing.

Live: THE MOSH LIVES! @ London Highbury Garage – 06 May 2011

May 11th, 2011

This tour was called THE MOSH LIVES!. We were confused as to whether that it meant that a mosh was alive, in which case nobody sent us a press release about it dying or whether it was the name of a new reality TV show following a few moshers around. We would probably watch that because we too are utter morons.

As much as we admire the gumption of the Imperial Never Say Die! tour to bring so many bands out on the road together, there’s something about having to put an exclamation mark in the middle of a sentence that has always irritated us a bit. We’re ot sure if it irritates our top photographer, Gary Wolstenholme though, even after he went down to shoot the tour when it hit Sheffield last weekend.

You could be forgiven for giving iwrestledabearonce a pass from their name alone; or just another screamy-electro band who are ‘down with the kids’. Fusing grinding screams with powerful singing – plus the odd jazz interlude thrown in for good measure – iwrestledabearonce are alongside the likes of HORSE The Band in terms of musical style and feel.
