Record Store Day is once again looming – this weekend, music collector nerds of all shapes and sizes will descend upon their local record shops to buy over-priced and often not-very-good limited edition releases to mark the occasion. However, some of the stuff being put out for Record Store Day is bloody brilliant, and the New Heavy Sounds Vol.3 compilation – featuring a load of killer new tracks from a whole load of their bands – is one of those, hence why it’s our pick for If You Buy One Thing This Week.
LIMB (UK) are a London-based quartet who deploy crushing riffs, rhythms and vocals, all housed in a vat of slow-churned tar that fans of Goatsnake and Weedeater will lap up. It's not all crushing atmospheres though: the band shift up through the gears with ease to deliver driving rhythms and galloping riffs in 'Black Rat' and 'Dead Voice', both of which take you back to glorious classic rock hooks of the '70s. The band are also not afraid to ease up on the attack either: there's an undercurrent of barely restrained melody Read more on Last.fm
Limb on Thrash Hits

One of the best things about If You Buy One Thing This Week is that it gives us a chance to catch up with what our Future Hits alumni have been getting up to. New Heavy Sounds is a label we’ve been meaning to feature as part of our label profile for some time now. Quite literally three-quarters of the label’s roster have appeared in our Future Hits column at some point – that, ladies and gentlemen, is a very impressive hit-rate. We caught up with one half of the label’s co-flunders, Ged Murphy, to discuss the ins and outs of being a label specialising in new, up-and-coming British bands.

Thrash Hits verdict: When it comes to small-UK-labels-doing-things-that-tickle-Thrash-Hits’-collective-fancy, there aren’t many in the same league as New Heavy Sounds. They’re not only responsible for putting out the last releases from long-time TH faves Black Moth and Throne (hey, we threw the launch party for their EP, that’s how much we liked it!), but they also have a killer line in compilations of bands that you really ought to dig out – we’re always finding new bands we love on them. Anyway, their latest signing are the London-based Limb, who fit right in with the killer line-up of Brit-Doom that New Heavy Sounds do so well, which is more than enough reason for us to catch up with them for a Future Hits.
