Live: Machine Head + Bring Me The Horizon @ London Wembley Arena – 03 December 2011

These are certainly exciting times for Machine Head. They managed to follow up The Blackening with an equally stunning record, which penetrated many lists as a highlight of heavy metal in 2011 including our very own Thrash Hits Top 20. Tonight they play Wembley Arena, not as second fiddle to the likes of Metallica or Slipknot, but as headliners in their own right. Hopefully…

2011 end of year raz albums of the year raziq rauf thrash hits

I’ve spent 2011 harping on about one band: Trap Them. It’s unlikely you could have had a conversation with me about music without me saying “Darker” and “Handcraft” at some point. I may have just spoilt the incredible fun of reading my list. Anyway… the other nine albums on this list are wicked as well. Buy them all.

PROGTOLOGY with James Monteith of TesseracT: #3a – On tour across the USA

May 10th, 2011

The chicken-fried steak stories were a good clue as to this column’s future but TesseracT guitarist James Monteith has checked in with so many stories from their current US tour that we’ve had to split his third column into two parts. We’ll start with the useful stuff: guitar lessons, shooting Maylene and the Sons of Disaster with BB guns and… what’s that about a second album? OH!

Progtology with James Monetieth Thrash Hits

We’re a month and a bit into our North American tour. We’ve played over 20 shows, made some great new friends, seen all kinds of weather conditions, I’ve grown a full beard, shaved it off, and started to grow another again. It’s been eventful.

June 17th, 2010

Yeah, that’s right. The latest flabbergastingly casual observation by the Thrash Hits team is that Phil Demmel of Machine Head has got a MASSIVE head. As in, he’s not an arrogant, egotistical wanker (quite the opposite, in fact) – he is simply in possession of a large cranium.

Just look at Dave McClain’s tiny head in comparison to Big Phil’s! GO ON!

After Thrash Hits’ world-exclusive breaking of the story a week before, no-one was really surprised when that banner we’re all oh so familiar with from so many shows promoting The Blackening began its steady rise at the back of the stage. After all the will-they-won’t-they shenanigans, Robb Flynn and co decided they would make to Knebworth after all.
