Manowar is an American heavy metal band from Auburn, New York. Formed in 1980, the group is known for lyrics based on fantasy (particularly sword and sorcery) and mythology (particularly Norse mythology and Greco-Roman mythology).

In 1984 the band was included in the Guinness Book of World Records for delivering the loudest performance, a record which they have since broken on 2 occasions. They also hold the world record for the longest heavy metal concert after playing for 5 hours and 1 minute in Bulgaria (at Kavarna Rock Fest) in 2008. Read more on Last.fm

If there’s one band that defies the laws of cool, then it’s Manowar. This is a band that is not only ridiculed within metal, but is so well known for their OTT-ness that they regularly come in for comic abuse by music publications outside of metal. It’s testament to just how ridiculously devouted Manowar’s fans are that despite all the sniggering and cheap jokes, Manowar are still an enormous band. And later this year, they’re coming to remind you of this fact with a full UK/Ireland tour.
