July 27th, 2014

Alt-Fest 2014 Slaylist CANCELLED Thrash Hits

Another Sunday, another Slaylist dedicated to the line-up of one of the UK’s upcoming summer festivals. This week it is the turn of Alt-Fest – a brand new festival taking place over the weekend of 15-17 August, in the Boughton Estate near Kettering. It’s still got a fair whack of metal and rock in the line-up, but Alt-Fest separates itself form the crowd with a healthy dollop of goth and industrial music as well. Go stuff this week’s Slaylist down your ears and you’ll see what we’re talking about.

Oh dear. Alt-Fest has been cancelled. Still, you can still enjoy our Spotify Playlist, right?

May 14th, 2013

Wes Borland is a man of many faces. He’s also a man of many bands. Everyone knows him for playing guitar in Limp Bizkit but he’s been in half a dozen others. Half a dozen, eh? Sounds like perfect fodder for a Top 6, so we asked him to pick his favourite song from each of them. The problem is that he’s played in more than six bands so this list doesn’t even include Big Dumb Face.

Midweek Bootleg 006: Marilyn Manson – Surrender

November 21st, 2012

With the ‘Twins of Evil’ tour arriving in the UK next week, we’re turning our attention to the cover song that serial cover’ers Marilyn Manson have never released in an official form. And of course, Hugh Platt likes any excuse to waffle on about Manson.

Oh Manson. Manson, Manson, Manson. I’ve had some words about you in the past. Next week, I’ll have some more words about your current antics. But for the time being, let’s talk a little bit about your record of cover songs, shall we?

So what does everyone think of ‘No Reflection’ – the new single from Marilyn Manson?

March 8th, 2012

Marilyn Manson No Reflection Born Villain Thrash Hits

The new single by Marilyn Manson, ‘No Reflection’, the first full track anyone (apart from those in the former king of shock-rockers’ inner circle) has heard from the band’s forthcoming eighth studio album, Born Villain. It debuted on LA radio station KROQ yesterday, so of course a radio-rip has already found its way online. Check it out after the jump – though you better be quick, as it’s bound to get taken down before long. **UPDATE** Cooking Vinyl, the distributor through which Manson’s new, self-owned label, Hell, etc, operates, have now posted an official stream of the song now.

Top 6 things Marilyn Manson NEEDS to do in 2011 to save his career

September 15th, 2011

Is there still a place for Marilyn Manson in the world of heavy metal, circa 2011? Hugh Platt still seems to think so – or at least he thinks there might be if Manson doesn’t keep screwing up.

Marilyn Manson 2010 Thrash Hits

30 January 2001 – ladies and gentlemen, that was the date that Marilyn Manson began his slow but steady descent to the career-low at which he finds himself today. And terrible crime did Manson commit on that date that so marked his fate? Well, that was when Manson joined Eminem onstage in Germany during Eminem’s song ‘The Way I Am’ for the first (and not for the last) time. Doesn’t seem like much, does it?

Well, since then he’s gradually become ridiculed for his substandard live performances, humiliated by internet-guffawing at his drunken and demented press appearances, and cut adrift by his long-term record label following lackluster album sales. That Eminem collaboration wasn’t the cause of this though – it was merely the first warning sign of things to come.

Is Marilyn Manson’s comeback film, ‘Born Villain’, just a little too try-hard?

September 1st, 2011

Marilyn Manson Born Villain promo photo Thrash Hits

Poor old Marilyn Manson. Just over a decade ago he was able to call himself The God of F**k and get away with it. He was bloody massive. In 1998, he won pretty much every Kerrang! Readers poll category going – good and bad. Love him or hate him, he was a force to be reckoned with. Then the rot started to set in. The campaign surrounding his last album – regardless of how good some of the songs on it were – was capsized by Manson’s shoddy live performances, drunken interviews, and the sense that he just didn’t give a damn anymore. And not in a good way.

Well, Manson is back, with a “short film” called ‘Born Villain’. Is this video an indication that things are changing for the better in the world of Manson, or is it yet more evidence that Brian Warner well and truly blown his chances of getting back to the big time?
