Sonisphere 2014 Sunday Slaylist Thrash Hits

Oh it’s been away for a while, but Sonisphere Festival has returned to the UK and is less than one whole week away. We cannot wait. We are excited. There are loads of our favourite bands playing at the magnificent Knebworth Park, which is why in time-honoured tradition, we’ve gone and made ourselves a Sunday Spotify Slaylist of some of the bands we really want to see next weekend to get us well and truly in the mood for Sonisphere’s comeback weekend.

Metallica are headlining the Sunday evening of Sonisphere Festival 2014 so Raziq Rauf took a few minutes to talk to festival booker, Alan Day about the metal legends, the cancelled event of 2012 and what to look out for at Knebworth this year. You can also WIN a pair of Sonisphere tickets and a goody bag. Decent.

The future of British rock and metal festivals

April 1st, 2014

With Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Faith No More, Motörhead and Soulfly (and Wolfmother…) set to fill the main stage of a day at British Summer Time festival in Hyde Park this July, it struck Raziq Rauf that the same bill could easily have been announced in 2000 to the same fanfare. What has (or has not) happened in the last 14 years for this to be the case and what does the future have in store?

What is the future of music festivals? I’m not talking 2015 (because 2014’s summer season lineup is just about fully lined up), I’m talking about something more like 2025. What is going to happen to our music festivals in the next ten years? Will Metallica still be headlining on a rota with Slipknot, Iron Maiden and Linkin Park? The classic rockers like Aerosmith, Def Leppard and Black Sabbath have a shelf-life. Are Avenged Sevenfold or Rammstein the answer? While they sell out arenas in London and that simply translates to headlining Donington or Knebworth, neither have ever had quite the same impact as those first mentioned few and they likely never will.

Best of 2013: Top 6 News

January 11th, 2014

BEST-OF-2013-NEWS

We spell it out clear as day in our ‘About’ page – Thrash Hits is not a new blog. It’s the very first sentence in our ‘About’ page. If we wanted to just regurgitate the hundreds of meaningless press releases that arrive in our inboxes every day, we’d go work for one of those other, nowhere-near-as-good-as-Thrash-Hits websites. You really want another site where you can read the same story over and over again, with nothing new added to it other than just a slightly-differemt-flavour of snark?

So yeah, we might not be a news site, but we still post news stories every now and again. Sometimes it’s because a news story is too big to ignore, sometimes it’s because we’ve gone and done some actual journalism and discovered something all on our own. Sometimes it’s just that we found something we really liked and wanted more of you to know about it. Here are six of our most-viewed from 2013*.

Zebrahead and the art of advertising “self-love” aids: Adam Graham from FACT is our man in Japan

October 15th, 2013

Here’s the second column from Adam Graham – the “token white guy” (his words, not ours) in Japanese mosh heroes, FACT. For content, our man in Japan is still banking on Japan being weirder than what you’re used to. It appears to be working. We’re hopeful of plenty more too…

Japan’s a funny old country. I don’t mean this in a sneering, xenophobic, “Oh, look at the silly foreigners,” kind of way – I am extremely fortunate to live here and enjoy the hospitality of the country and its people. What I mean is that from a completely objective standpoint a lot of things go down here that seem to teeter on the edge of sanity.

I’m talking Pepsi-flavoured Cheetos and nightmare-inducing “cute” mascots (can you guess what this fella is selling?!). Oh and hey, you’re worried about a little bit of horsemeat finding its way into your hamburger? What about if it found its way into your ice cream? ON PURPOSE.

Chris Hemsworth AKA Thor is a metalhead

August 29th, 2013

thor chris hemsworth thrash hits 2012

In a new interview featured in the US edition of Esquire magazine, it has transpired that Hollywood’s Thor, Chris Hemsworth is a metalhead. He beats the crap out of his mate whilst listening to Pantera. Strong.

It’s Saturday, so Hemsworth boxes. In his garage. With his best friend from high school. Music — Pantera — throbbing through speakers. The guy is suited up in a bright yellow foam suit and helmet, calling out the shots — jab, jab, hook, uppercut. Hemsworth hits hard enough to hurt the trainer, even with the protective gear. Every now and then he throws in a side kick for good measure. He could do this all day. It’s Saturday, so he might lift afterwards. Then spar with his wife. Maybe surf a little at dusk. He can do whatever he wants.
