Uh-oh – we’re dealing with some Serious Stuff on this episode of the podcast. This week, Hugh is joined by Tom Doyle as they take a look at the unpleasant creeping tolerance for casual racism, sexism, homophobia and hate that has creeped into the fandom of modern metal, rock, and punk, and also at significant sections of the community’s unwillingness to recognise or address it in a meaningful way. Yeah, it’s not for the faint-hearted.
Mötley Crüe

Mötley Crüe was an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles, California on January 17, 1981. Live: Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe + Steel Panther @ London Wembley Arena – 14 December 2011
December 16th, 2011
Where is Def Leppard? Where is Mötley Crüe? When Steel Panther asked these questions in their debut single ‘Death To All But Metal’ – little would they have known that a few years later, they would actually be on tour with them. We managed to find our leopard print trousers and guy-liner in time to race over to Wembley for the ultimate hair metal night out.
Six things we found out when we went to see Def Leppard at Wembley:
Nikki Sixx to release photo journal and SIXX:AM soundtrack + WIN IT ALL!
March 11th, 2011
Mötley Crüe wrote some of the best songs ever for strippers to wiggle their bums to. For this we’re really thankful. Bassist, Nikki Sixx is a bona fide Rock Icon and his latest press release says he’s a Syndicated Radio Show Host as well. That’s great.
More importantly, on 02 May 2011, Sixx is releasing a book called This Is Gonna Hurt: Music, Photography And Life Through The Distorted Lens Of Nikki Sixx. It just rolls off the tongue. Even better is there will be an 11-track CD companion to the book from SIXX:AM. Combo.

Sonisphere Festival 2010: Mötley Crüe @ Saturn Stage – Saturday, 31 July 2010
August 3rd, 2010
Mötley Crüe bring their mayhem to the Saturn Stage looking tired and breathless and sounding rather lost. Luckily, playing their greatest hits rescues them from total disaster. Remember Download Festival 2009? Shout At The Devil? More like shout at the sound engineer.

With all that’s been said about Mötley Crüe over the years, from the debauchery and drug abuse to the rifts between band members, the music has stayed the same and the band have produced some of the biggest rock anthems of all time. A collection of these are showcased in the 1989 LP Dr. Feelgood which has been revamped into a deluxe edition 20 years after its initial release.
