Nice Hooves

Nice Hooves is a five-piece punk band from Detroit, Michigan.

Four members come from Detroit hardcore punk mainstay, The Armed. Aaron Jones, Randall Kupfer, Kenny Szymanski and Tony Wolski throw guitars, bass, drums and occasionally themselves directly at the crowd. All the while Dave Graw – formerly of Detroit’s Bang Bang! – sings, screams and often rants.

Coming together organically after Graw provided vocals on a track for The Armed's 2011 Young & Beautiful EP, they quickly amassed more songs than expected. Read more on

PREMIERE! The video to Warpaint Is Not A Mask by Nice Hooves puts so many crap videos to shame

Nice Hooves 2014 Thrash Hits

Do you know why we hardly ever do “video premieres” or “exclusive first play!!!11!” features very often on Thrash Hits? It’s because they’re rubbish. “Exclusive”, you say? For all of five minutes until someone reposts it elsewhere. They’re nothing more than pissing contests and territorial chest-beating from both the bands and media that both demand and capitulate to them.

That’s why we only do them for stuff we really, really like. That’s why we’re doing it for ‘Warpaint Is Not A Mask’, the brand new and incredible video from Detroit’s Nice Hooves.

Sunday Slaylist: The Best of 2013

2013 AOTY Thrash Hits Albums of the Year

The end of the year is here. Pretty much everything that’s going to be released is now out, and barring any late breaking oh-my-God-is-that-actually-happening style news stories, 2013 is done and dusted. And with the convenient if entirely arbitrary transition from one year to the next a mere 48 hours away, we’re dedicating the final Sunday Spotify Slaylist of 2013 to the records that we loved the most this year.

Thrash Hits Editors’ Albums of 2013 – Raziq Rauf + Hugh Platt

Thrash Hits albums of 2013 Editors raziq rauf hugh platt

Due to the fact Raz and Hugh run things at Thrash Hits, their opinions are the most important. Yes there’s an overall TH Top 20 Albums of 2013 and there’s a list of the individual contributors’ favourite albums, but their opinions are also the most correct. That’s why they’ve got their own post where they can explain their own favourite albums of 2013 without being sullied by democracy.

The Thrash Hits Albums of 2013 In Numbers

2013 AOTY Thrash Hits Albums of the Year

If you’re on this page, you really should have seen the Thrash Hits Albums of the Year 2013 list already. If you haven’t, you should click that link or this link and sort that out. This piece will attempt to delve into some vague statistical analysis of the results. This is really only interesting if you care deeply about either the Thrash Hits Top 20, any old statistical analysis or both, so the chances are you’ll have clicked through to something else by now. Anyway…

Future Hits 160: Nice Hooves

Thrash Hits verdict: Sometimes a band comes along that is too good. A band so good that we get actively irritated that the rest of the world doesn’t love them like we do. Bands like Chambers fell into that category. Nice Hooves are a band in that category. We like them so much, when the BBC asked us to pick a song during their Review Show Download Festival special, they were the first band that sprung to mind. They’re part of the No Rest Until Ruin label gang, which makes them more DIY than every branch of B&Q put together, and you can download their entire debut for free. Seriously, the barriers stopping you from getting this band’s music into your ears are virtually nil. Get on it.

We dropped an email to Nice Hooves frontman, Dave Graw, and he sent us back the best Future Hits interview response we’ve had in months.

Label Profile 007: No Rest Until Ruin

No Rest Until Ruin Thrash Hits

If you’ve read Thrash Hits for any length of time, you’ll know we bloody love The Armed: the loudest, nastiest, most badass band out of Detroit that your poser mates down the pub have never heard of, who’ve released everything they’ve ever recorded as totally free downloads. Well, they’ve only gone and formed themselves a super DIY label, haven’t they? No Rest Until Ruin is now the home of The Armed, Old Gods, and Nice Hooves – and you’d be wise to get familiar with those bands if you’re not already. We dropped an email to Tony Wolski, one of the men behind the label, to find out what’s been stirring in Michigan these last few months…  [Read more →]

Thrash Hits on Mixcloud

This week Raz and Hugh got together to talk about their favourite albums of 2013 so far, but rather than do it as a podcast where we can only talk about the music and not actually play any (because, y’know, licensing laws and all that), we figured we’d put our choices out there via Mixcloud, where we can mix our talk with loud music as much as we damn well please.
