Top 6: Under-appreciated Nine Inch Nails songs

Nine Inch Nails live at Reading Thrash Hits

If you’re a Nine Inch Nails fan, chances are you’re pretty damn excited for the UK leg of the band’s European tour that kicks off later this week. It’s been a long, long, long while since Trent Reznor and his gang of (un)merry men brought Nine Inch Nails’ brand of barrier-breaking, genre-mocking, soul-eating music to the UK, and they’re doing it this time in the biggest indoor venues we’ve got. Whatever you think of Reznor’s music, that’s a mighty damn impressive state of a affairs for a man who makes some of the darkest music on the planet.

While we could take a peek at what songs they’ve been playing around Europe, there’s something to be said about keeping yourself in the dark about a band’s setlist, which is why we asked fellow NIN fan Daniel Cairns to put together a little preview piece for us in the form of…

2013 thrash hits favourite moments of the year

Life is funny. Music is fun. Life is serious. Music is serious. As in life, it is in music. There are moments that are hilarious and others that are much less so. Either way, they stick in your mind. Whether you revel in having fun or in poking fun, you will have had a Favourite Moment in 2013 and that’s what this list is. Some of them are utter abominations of class and style but that’s why you’re on this pitiful excuse of a website. Hooray.

If You Buy One Thing This Week: Hesitation Marks by Nine Inch Nails

September 2nd, 2013

Nine Inch Nails live at Reading Thrash Hits

There have been few comebacks as eagerly awaited as Nine Inch Nails. It’s been more than five years since The Slip, so the release of Trent Reznor’s latest album, Hesitation Marks, has quite rightly seen the hype machine go seven shades of psycho over the songs that preceded the full album stream being made available.

Reading Festival 2013 in review (+ some photos)

August 28th, 2013

Reading Festival is a great festival. We go every year. We get drunk and we see as many bands as is feasibly, possibly doable. Occasionally, we remain lucid enough to actually take note of what’s going on around us and it’s at those moments that we made mental notes that we forget.

Anyhow, here are some things that happened that we’re going to talk about. Some of it is directly about bands but some of it might seem like constructive criticism that we should probably send straight to the promoter for him to ignore completely. We prefer it when you ignore us completely, so here goes.

Sunday Slaylist: Reading & Leeds Festival 2013

August 11th, 2013

Reading & Leeds Festival 2013 Thrash Hits

With the August Bank Holiday weekend rapidly approaching, Reading & Leeds Festivals are once again upon us. As with every year, Reading & Leeds have a bit fat dollop of heaviness in among the landfill indie, so for this week’s Sunday Slaylist we’ve put together a Spotify playlist of the hardest and heaviest from their 2013 line-ups.

Nine Inch Nails and a load more bands also added to Reading & Leeds 2013 festival line-ups

March 11th, 2013

Trent Reznor 2013 Thrash Hits

Oh, and in addition to Green Day, a whole load of other bands were added to the Reading & Leeds Festivals 2013 line-ups today. Most exciting is the news that Trent Reznor will be bringing Nine Inch Nails to the UK for their first shows since he decided to reform his touring alter-ego. Also joining the bill that (at least vaguely) meet the Thrash Hits remit are City and Colour, The Blackout, Mallory Knox, New Found Glory, Twin Atlantic, Tomahawk and While She Sleeps.

These new additions join a line-up that includes the previously announced headliners Eminem, Biffy Clyro, and Green Day as well as a few other bands (and a fair few that aren’t) of interest to your average Thrash Hits Reader. You want more info? You want to shell out £197.50 (plus fees, parking, camping, and a load of other extras that will push your ticket price above £200 for the weekend)? Well, head on over to either the Reading or Leeds Festival site and you can do both.

Trent Reznor Nine Inch Nails 2013 Thrash Hits

We’re not sure why so many people were surprised when Trent Reznor announced at the start of the week that Nine Inch Nails would be going back out on the road to play some shows over the next two years. Reznor has always said that Nine Inch Nails would return, and it’s been four long years since the band last played together – a return to the music that is Reznor down to his blood-and-bones seems natural at this point.
