In the second of our weekly Cloudcasts, our Deputy Editor Hugh Platt is joined by Tom Doyle to talk some of the albums getting released this week, as well as the tour you need to know about that’s coming to the UK over the next seven days.
Philip Anselmo was the singer of the 90's metal band Pantera. Pantera consisted of:
Phil Anselmo on Vocals
'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott on guitar
Vinnie Paul Abbott on Drums
Rex Brown on Bass
Pantera achieved wide recognition through the years with songs such as 'Cowboys From Hell', 'Walk', and other hits. Pantera broke up in the year 2003. Phil Anselmo has been part of many side projects over the years such as the short lived band Superjoint Ritual, and is currently touring with his current project Down. Read more on Last.fm

If you were to go pick up a copy of a dictionary today and look up “pleasantly surprising”, you’d see a picture of the cover of the new Phil Anselmo solo album, Walk Through Exits Only, alongside a note explaining that it’s by far the heaviest, most aggressive, and overtly “metal” album he’s made since the end of Pantera. That’s why it’s our nomination for If You Buy One Thing This Week.
*Technically if you look in the dictionary under “pleasantly surprising”* you won’t actually see anything, what with it being a phrase rather than a word. C’mon, you know how dictionaries work by now.

Maybe the slow burning classic rock jams of Down just aren’t cathartic enough for Philip. Maybe the increased vigour that he’s been displaying through Housecore Records has rekindled something deep inside one of the most metal hearts stalking our stages these days. Either way, Walk Through Exits Only is a heavy metal beast of an album.
