October is a good month. Not only are there about a bazillion brilliant records released now the Summer release slump has ended, but it’s when the big guns of Autumn/Winter indoor festival/all-dayer scene let loose. Among our favourites: London’s very own Live Evil Festival.
There is more than one artist called Quartz.
1) Quartz came out of the British hard rock hotbed of Birmingham to join the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement in the late '70s. With a lineup that included John Bonham-associate Mike Hopkins and future Black Sabbath keyboardist Geoff Nichols, they were actually founded under the name Bandylegs but changed when Jet Records showed interest in the band. They signed a contract with the label and toured with both AC/DC and Sabbath before beginning work on their first album. Read more on Last.fm

Episode 2 of Vice/Marshall’s third series of On The Road made its way online today – this week Jesse Hughes from the Eagles of Death Metal makes his way to Milton Keynes to visit the home of Marshall Amplification, and then on to Birmingham to meet the influential – yet relatively unknown – Brummie metallers, Quartz.
