Metallers are po-faced. We don’t really like the idea of a joke, because the joke is often on us. But at the end of the day, we can just listen to Slayer and remind ourselves that the kernel of heavy metal is serious business, crafted by stocky-legged men hitting the bottom E string really hard and really fast.

In just four weeks time, arguably the “most metal” (whatever that means) of the UK summer festival season takes place: Bloodstock Open Air. March 12th, 2013

Sabaton by Gary Wolstenholme at Sheffield Corporation - 11 November 2012 Thrash Hits

Let’s cut right to the quick: Bloodstock Open Air have added Voivod, Sabaton, Wolfsbane, Xentrix, Powerquest, Skilton, Evil Scarecrow, Mael Mordha, RSJ and Gormathon to their 2013 line-up.

Today’s ten new additions will join the headliners of King Diamond, Lamb of God, and Slayer (along with all the other bands that have been announced thus far) on the bill over at Catton Hall, which in 2013 takes place on the weekend of 08-11 August. Tickets are on sale now, starting at £125 (before fees) and rising depending on what camping, parking, and VIP stuff you add to the mix.

SABATON! We’re pretty sure we used the exact same intro text last time we wrote about a photo gallery of their live shows here on Thrash Hits. SABATON! Doesn’t it just roll off the tongue? SABATON! In fact, the only thing that’s really new about this photo feature is the line-up of the band, given that Joakim Brodén is the only member of SABATON still in the band from when we last featured them.

Sabaton part ways with FOUR band members, and confuse the hell out everyone while they do it

March 31st, 2012

Sabaton 2011 by Gary Wolstenholme Thrash Hits

Well, here’s a confusing bit of news. People have spent the last 18 hours left debating whether or not sure this news was the result of a website hack, an April Fools’ joke that got splurted out a day early, or whether it’s just the result of some good old-fashioned miscommunication. However, this morning the Swedish military fetishists and all-round OTT metallers, Sabaton, have confirmed the rumours that have been making the rounds all week – that not one, not two, not three, but FOUR of their line-up have left the band, mere weeks before the band’s seventh studio album is released.

Photos: Hammerfest 2010 @ Pontin’s, Prestatyn – Day 3

March 21st, 2010

We had to pick a Sabaton shot to head Gary Wolstenholme’s final photo set from Hammerfest 2010. Seriously, go check the other shots of the band in the gallery after the jump, and you’ll see what we mean. Jesus fucking Christ, look at the posing! We can’t even think up something mocking to say about it, such is the extent that our minds have been blown.
