Seven years ago today, IBM’s chess-playing supercomputer Deep Blue defeated the then-world champion chess grandmaster Gary Kasparov in a series of six games. If we put on our tinfoil conspiracy-theorist hats, then this was the day that the slow and eventual machine takeover of humanity really begun. With that in mind, we’re taking a break from building our survival anti-Skynet bunker to put together this week’s Slaylist of future-fearing machine-war heavy metal.
Six Feet Under
A side project band started by Chris Barnes and Allen West of Obituary. Originally, the band was intended to just remain a side project, but after Chris was ejected from his original band Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under became his priority, subsequently moving the band from a side project to the long running act they are today.
Guest appearances through various Six Feet Under albums include Ice-T on True Carnage's "One Bullet Left" and Karyn Crisis of Crisis fame on the True Carnage song "Sick and Twisted. Read more on Last.fm

Life for a touring musician is hard. If you’re not a mega rich rockstar, then when you’re not on the road, you need to get a job. The record industry being as it is, there’s no way extreme metal musicians can rely on their record sales to tide them over. At the very least, you need to find ways of getting cheeky discounts, to make what little cash you do have stretch a bit further.
We wonder how much of a discount Chris Barnes from Six Feet Under got on his secondhand Porsche by starring in an advert for used car dealership.
