2013 thrash hits biggest surprise of the year

One of the best things about music is its unpredictability. Sometimes, those moments can cause true horror but the best moments are just ace. That’s why we spend so much time caring so much – for those moments. It’s worth the risk. Most of the time. Here are all of the Thrash Hits contributors’ biggest surprises of 2013. They’re mainly bad, actually, but whatever…

Punk is a state of mind, not a leather jacket

September 24th, 2013

The usual outrage has flared up amongst the alternative scene today as more punk stylings have found their way into the mainstream. It’s not even a specific person doing it, but a shop. An evil capitalist shop. Raziq Rauf thinks the punks should actually pipe down. It’s just a jacket, after all…

There’s been vague uproar in punk circles today and, as ever, their ire is directed at The Man. Firstly, Urban Outfitters have the temerity to sell a punk-oriented leather jacket. Sure. Avenged Sevenfold topping the UK album charts is good for Metal

September 1st, 2013

Avenged Sevenfold have reached #1 in the UK Album Charts with Hail To The King and that’s a great thing for Heavy Metal because, like it or not, it is a subculture. Sure, it’s a subculture that sells out Wembley Stadium and fills Donington Park every year, but metal is a niche genre nonetheless.

It requires effort to keep up with and only the very dedicated (me and you) ever know what’s going on in the metal world on a daily basis. That’s why Avenged Sevenfold appearing in such a high-profile position in non-metal media is important. It reminds “them” that “we” are still here.

God Listens To Slayer Thrash Hits

It’s a curious phenomenon. Slayer are unparalleled in their support. Not only are they the metaller’s metal band but they’ve also captured the attention of people who possibly weren’t even born when Reign In Blood was released.

The thrash legends are back in the UK this weekend, headlining Bloodstock Festival 2013. Last May they performed at Alexandra Palace as part of All Tomorrow’s Parties’ I’ll Be Your Mirror event. While Bloodstock Open Air is the preserve of the staunchest metal community in the world, ATP events tend to draw those in who are one step ahead of the madding crowd.

Why can’t metal fans spell their favourite bands correctly?

funny test exam heavy metal symbols thrash hits metallica slayer anthrax megadeth

Pulling people up on their spelling is a dick move – we get people referring to us as ‘Trash Hits’ all the time, after all – but Heavy Metal is a religion to almost 41,000 people and, as such, ought to be taken very, very seriously. That’s why, while trawling Facebook for some rubbish about Megadeth’s new album using our stupid, massive sausage fingers, we came across something that blew our puny minds. That led us to do some keyboard-oriented experimenting.

Warning: None of the below is cool. No.
