In 2008, Metal Skool changed their name to Steel Panther.

Steel Panther is a Los Angeles, California based glam metal parody band founded by former LA Guns vocalist Ralph Saenz (Michael Starr). Originally formed as "Metal Skool" and "Metal Shop" they're known for their energetic live show, the longest running metal show on the Sunset Strip. On stage, the band both pays tribute to and lampoons the heyday of 80's glam metal. The band's between-song comedy includes jests at conflict between band members Read more on Last.fm

Sunday Slaylist: Download Festival 2014 – the bands you know

Download 2014 Bands You Know Thrash Hits

In two weeks time, we will be at Download Festival 2014. Still the single biggest weekend in the UK rock calendar, once again around about 100,000 rock fans will descend upon Donington Park for three days of music, drinking, debauchery, and casual sexism. To get us in the mood for the first three of those things (let’s hope there’s a lot less of the fourth this year, right guys?), the next two Sunday Slaylists are all about the line-up to this year’s festival.

This week: The big guns. The heavy hitters. The bands you know.

The first thing to remember when reviewing a Steel Panther album is that, really, Steel Panther aren’t a band. Def Leppard are the band, Bon Jovi are the band, Van Halen are the band, Mötley Crüe are the band – Steel Panther are a parasitic sideshow on the hulking belly of stadium rock. A satire, a send up, a comedy façade performed by four apparently libidinous geriatrics in wigs and based on all of cock rocks most ludicrous traits. So the real question when reviewing the new Steel Panther record is this: Is their shtick still funny after three (THREE!) albums?

We are now firmly in the aftermath of last weekend’s Download Festival and while heads and limbs may now finally be recovering, the memories will surely last a lifetime. Donington Park yet again proved itself to be the home of rock and astonishing sets from the likes of Slipknot, Iron Maiden, Rammstein and many, many others made it a vintage year.

However, something slightly less cool once again raised its head in that field last weekend and it’s about time it gets addressed.

Where is Def Leppard? Where is Mötley Crüe? When Steel Panther asked these questions in their debut single ‘Death To All But Metal’ – little would they have known that a few years later, they would actually be on tour with them. We managed to find our leopard print trousers and guy-liner in time to race over to Wembley for the ultimate hair metal night out.

Six things we found out when we went to see Def Leppard at Wembley:
