Stone Sour is a three time Grammy Award-nominated American alternative metal/hard rock band from Des Moines, Iowa, USA. The band was founded by Corey Taylor, also the vocalist from Slipknot, and former drummer Joel Ekman.

Early days
Taylor's long time friend, Shawn Economaki, joined shortly after, and filled in as the bass player. The band had played clubs and bars with different guitarists - often filling the position for just one show. This time, Stone Sour recorded 2 demo tapes, in 1992 and 1994. Read more on Last.fm

Sunday Slaylist: Freddy vs Jason Halloween Special

October 26th, 2014

Freddy Vs Jason Thrash Hits

Last week’s Sunday Spotify Slaylist got us thinking – horror films and heavy metal have a long and established history together, and while Judgment Night is definitely an interesting soundtrack to look at for its historical significance in pairing modern rap and rock together pre-nu metal, it definitely wasn’t a horror film. With this being the last Sunday before Halloween proper, we figured we needed to address this by looking at the soundtrack to something unashamedly Halloween-ish.

We’re going full schlock. We’re diving in to the soundtrack for the nadir/logical conclusion of the supernaturally-endowed slasher villain genre. We’re talking Freddy Vs Jason.

Zebrahead and the art of advertising “self-love” aids: Adam Graham from FACT is our man in Japan

October 15th, 2013

Here’s the second column from Adam Graham – the “token white guy” (his words, not ours) in Japanese mosh heroes, FACT. For content, our man in Japan is still banking on Japan being weirder than what you’re used to. It appears to be working. We’re hopeful of plenty more too…

Japan’s a funny old country. I don’t mean this in a sneering, xenophobic, “Oh, look at the silly foreigners,” kind of way – I am extremely fortunate to live here and enjoy the hospitality of the country and its people. What I mean is that from a completely objective standpoint a lot of things go down here that seem to teeter on the edge of sanity.

I’m talking Pepsi-flavoured Cheetos and nightmare-inducing “cute” mascots (can you guess what this fella is selling?!). Oh and hey, you’re worried about a little bit of horsemeat finding its way into your hamburger? What about if it found its way into your ice cream? ON PURPOSE.

Supergroup Blue Balls – the Velvet Revolver/Corey Taylor Affair

Velvet Revolver Corey Taylor Slipknot Sone Sour Thrash Hits

This whole will-they-won’t-they saga between Velvet Revolver and Corey Taylor has just gotten silly now. We know that the probable reason it’s not been “officially” announced yet is the sheer weight of lawyers both parties have got hammering out how many shekels each party gets to take home from t-shirt sales once this is a done deal, but their continued umming-and-ahhing over each other in the press is like two love-dumb teenagers throwing puppy dog eye gazes at each other over a bottle of Baileys. We’re sure it’s all cute’n’sweet for everyone involved, but it’s getting kinda sickening for the rest of us to watch.

Has Corey Taylor written the best Christmas song ever?

December 1st, 2010

Ever a man for festivities, Tom Dare kicks off advent by listening to Corey Taylor’s brilliant new song for this special time of year. And Mayhem.

We love Christmas more than most Swedish death metal bands love their beards, and now Slipknot frontman, Corey Taylor, has given us yet another reason to talk about it. In case you think Corey might be going soft, rest assured that ‘X-M@$’ isn’t that kind of Christmas song – after all, it features such choice lyrics as “fa-la-la-la, go fuck yourself”. You can check the full song out after the jump.
