In case you missed the news earlier this week, we’re teaming up with Songkick Detour to try to bring some of the best bands in the world to London. Some of them have split up (but occasionally threaten to get back together), some of them have reformed but just not made the trip over to the UK yet, and some of them have never been to these shores. This week’s Sunday Spotify Slaylist will hopefully remind you why you need to pledge to see these bands.
Super Snake is a mouthful of psychedelics washed down with ten beers while listening to Black Sabbath and the dirtier parts of Sonic Youth.
Members include singer Jerry Jones, the vocalist of the acclaimed psych-blues outfit Trophy Scars, and guitarist Gregg Kautz from the ex-Boysetsfire project I Am Heresy; with drummer Vinnie Fiore, bassist Jesse Mariani, and guitarist John Pinho all from the prematurely dismantled hardcore band Chambers.

We saw the power of Songkick Detour back in February when, in conjunction with our big sister, DrownedinSound, Desaparecidos played their first UK show. It was impressive and it was powered by the crowd. They wanted to see Desaparecidos play live in London and they put their money where their mouths were. We want to do the same thing with some bands that we like.

Unless you’re some kind of cave dwelling troglodyte (and hey, we know not all our readers are virgin neck-beards), you can’t help but know about the devastation that Hurricane Sandy caused across the Caribbean and much of the East Coast of the USA. Among one of the areas most badly hit in the USA was New Jersey, home state of our US writer, Dan Pelic. Dan has witnessed the carnage wrought by Hurricane Sandy up close and personal, and in an effort to help raise money for the relief efforts for those still affected by the after-effects of the hurricane, Dan is throwing a benefit show on Thanksgiving Eve.

Lazy equation: A pissed off Tom Waits + Sleazy Rock N Roll + serious bitterness towards exs (+ Ugly Kid Joe) = Violently styled lyrics over steamy, down-tempo riffs.

Thrash Hits Verdict: We’ve got one EP of all but four songs to go by, and they’re all winners. HOORAY! As dark and disturbing as the tunes can get, there is also a shameless, exaggerated air to the music and the band itself. I mean, the band’s press photo consists of five pale shirtless dudes slathered in baby oil. In this day and age new bands have to whore themselves out a bit for attention, though, right?
