Tom Doyle is a good boy (when he’s not provoking bands into threatening to headbutt him or writing letters about pop music, that is). He recycles. He cleans the dishes after he’s finished eating. And he took his mum out to go see The Gaslight Anthem when they came and played the fancy Troxy here in London.

Six things we learnt when Tom Doyle’s Mum when to see The Gaslight Anthem play in London:

It’s nice having a genuine fist-pumping, bridge and tunnel New Jersey boy in our ranks. That Dan Pelic is one of our writers means that we can review things like The Bamboozle Festival with ease. Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi and… Skrillex headline the three-day event and it’s on A BEACH. Cool.

WARNING: Dan’s in a bad mood.

Festival Republic have tonight officially confirmed the first batch of 41 names playing their flagship festivals – Reading & Leeds Festivals. Although their arguably the UK’s biggest festivals taking place in 2012 (since Glastonbury is taking a year off), admittedly most of these names will be of little or no interest to the majority of our readers here at Thrash Hits, but there are a few heavier highlights in among the indie-fodder.

Future Hits 070: Something About Death Or Dying

Something About Death Or Dying
From: New Jersey, USA
Lazy equation: (Norma Jean x Doomriders) – The Gaslight Anthem
Website: Myspace, Facebook

Thrash Hits verdict: We live for fresh music and this is it right here. We love, love, loved Chambers’ debut album earlier in 2010 and The Gaslight Anthem speak for themselves so a combination of the two was never going to be bad but we really weren’t preparaed for just how good SADOD were going to be. Groovy, tumultuous riffs that rise and fall with speedball energy, rounded off with vocals that carry an unbridled ferocity. Alex Rosamilia’s guitarwork is unrecognisable from his other band and Dan Pelic’s voice is one of the truest portrayals of anger you’re ever going to hear. It’s inspirational stuff.

When we heard back in October that Chambers were looking for a new vocalist, we fired off an email to their now former-frontman, Dan Pelic, to find out what in the blue blazes was going on. Chambers had only put out their debut album, Old Love (which you’ll be hearing about all over again when we go through our top records of 2010 in a few weeks time) back in June. Dan told us he’d been given the boot from Chambers, but he was hanging out with some old friends and working on a new project, and he’d give us a holler when there was something to shout about.

He dropped us an email last Friday. And by sweet holy fuck, Something About Death Or Dying is something worth shouting about.

Wait…what? THAT’s the Reading/Leeds Festival line-up?

March 30th, 2010

Believe it or not, Reading & Leeds Festival 2010 have already announced a more controversial line-up than Download and Sonisphere put together. Hugh Platt explains why.

Holy fuck! We guess you’ve seen the initial Reading and Leeds Festival line-up announcements by now, and we’ll admit that we are surprised. We normally like to smugly stroke our beards at impending festival announcements, safe in the knowledge of what’s about to be revealed is either a) underwhelming, b) already pre-leaked to near-pointlessness, or c) of absolutely no interest whatsoever.

But Reading and Leeds Festivals this year have already gone beyond expectations.
