Kerouac's Final Show by Ben Gibson Thrash Hits

Oh man. It wasn’t a tough decision to head down to the Old Blue Last for Kerouac’s final show, but it sure as Hell was a difficult proposition to review it afterwards and convey even a fraction of how it felt on the night. Hugh Platt handles the words; Ben Gibson is our man with the camera.

Six things we learned when we saw Kerouac’s last EVER show:

We’ve been talking up The Tangled Tour for aaagggeeesss. We’re big fans of every band that’s taking part, and we can’t remember the last time we could say that about a tour that’s got seven bands playing over the course of its run. Tangled Tour Preview: The Long Haul

September 21st, 2011

The Long Haul first popped onto our radar when other bands started recommending them to us towards the tail-end of 2010. Our high-opinion of them was solidified when we finally got to see them live when we caught them smashing apart the cramped basement space that is the Buffalo Bar in Highbury. Since then, not only have their own releases continued to float our collective boat, but the band’s guitarist, Lewis Johns, has produced some of the fiercest homegrown records to emerge from the UK in recent years.

Now with a new vocalist and a new EP to their name, and The Tangled Tour a mere two weeks away, we figured now was as good a time as any to drop a line to their bassist, Adam Guest, and find out just what’s going on right now in the world of The Long Haul.

Has there ever been a better time in the history of the UK underground than what we’ve seen in the last 5 years? True, we’ve seen many spectacular acts explode then implode, but they burned fast and burned hard. Now two of our favourite bands of last year have come together for a wonderful slab of 10″ grey vinyl – courtesy of Tangled Talk Records  – and they’re out to wreck your lives.

Future Hits 073: The Long Haul

February 1st, 2011

The Long Haul
From: Southampton, UK
Lazy equation: (Converge + south coast smalltown hate) x five sets of middle fingers
Website: The Long Haul on Facebook
Thrash Hits verdict: Combining threatening but angular guitar work with some of the fiercest growls we’ve heard come out of a skinny feller, The Long Haul are the latest in a long line of Tangled Talk acts to earn a spot as one of our Future Hits, and further proof that the UK hardcore scene is in rude health. We caught up with Lewis Johns, guitarist with the five-piece. [Read more →]
