The Menzingers originally formed after the dissolution of Bob And The Sagets, a band local to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area of Pennsylvania. With the addition of Greg Barnett the band recorded a demo/self-released album "A Lesson In The Abuse Of Information Technology" in 2006.

Shortly thereafter they were signed by Go-Kart Records and re-recorded the songs from "A Lesson" and re-released their album with the addition of some new tracks.

It might seem unfair, but a new album is always going to be judged by the one that preceded it. So, let’s get this out of the way as quickly as possible; Rented World is not as good as On The Impossible Past. In fact, it doesn’t really come close. If you’re looking for another record charged with the kind of electricity that hums between the sweat-covered walls and low ceilings of beery basement venues or more songs that chronicle the mundanity and nostalgia of small town adolescence, you need to accept the fact that The Menzingers have moved on.

Hevy 2013 cancelled Thrash Hits

This weekend would’ve been the fifth Hevy Festival…but as you no doubt know by now, the festival was forced to cancel their event this year. They tried to schedule a replacement all-dayer at the Brixton Academy here in London, featuring some of the biggest bands on this year’s (cancelled) bill…but as you also know by now, they had to cancel that too.

It’s not been the best year for Hevy Festival, truth be told.

The appeal of honest, sweat-drenched punk rock is decades old, but its power never seems to diminish and the reaction it can illicit in your heart and head when done correctly is second to none. With their third full-length, On The Impossible Past, The Mezingers have tapped into this spirit with a display of effortlessly emotive songwriting flecked with nostalgic Americana, all held together with an understated but ever present sense of melody, dynamics and candid self-reflection.
