Back in April, The Ocean released their latest concept album, Pelagial, and pretty much ever since they’ve been off all over the world tour. We sent Tom Gibbons down to check out the Hong Kong show of the Asian leg of their world tour last month, and got him to sit down with The Ocean guitarist Robin Staps afterwards for a Tsing Tao and a chat.
The Ocean (a.k.a. The Ocean Collective) is a progressive metal band started in 2001 in Berlin, Germany by guitarist Robin Staps. However, the first stable line-up was formed only in 2009 during recording sessions of Heliocentric and Anthropocentric.
As for 2013, 4 of 5 band members are from Switzerland, while its founder continues to live in Berlin. In addition, Chris Breuer, a touring bass player who also made a recording appearance on Pelagial, is a citizen of Berlin too. Read more on Last.fm

It’s just a few short weeks away now – Damnation Festival 2013 is (once again) going to be the heavy music event of the Winter here in the UK. We’re going to be heading up to Leeds University in force come 02 November, but until then, we’ve put together a Sunday Spotify Slaylist to hype us up for what’s (once again) one of the best one-dayer metal fest line-ups the UK has ever seen.

The Ocean have had a bit of a tumultuous year. Fresh from taking part in the Summer Slaughter tour (where they butted heads with Sumerian Records boss and tour founder, Ash Avildsen), they’ve carried on with their world tour.
