Thin Lizzy are an Irish hard rock band who formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1969. The band were led throughout their recording career by bassist, songwriter and singer Phil Lynott, and are best known for their songs Whiskey in the Jar, Jailbreak and The Boys Are Back in Town, all major international hits still played regularly on hard rock and classic rock radio stations. After Lynott died, various incarnations of the band have emerged over the years culminating in a more stable line-up based around guitarists Scott Gorham and John Sykes. Read more on Last.fm

There are bands that go well with a drink, and then there are bands that turn even the lightest drinker into a nonstop, unapologetic booze machine. To have two bands of the latter kind on the same bill is kinda genius and also kinda dangerous. Our livers were quivering in fear when we set off for this one.

Six things we learned when Thin Lizzy and Clutch played in London

Hard Rock Hell II lineup finalised

July 2nd, 2008

Cancer Bats Hard Rock Hell Thrash Hits

The lineup for the second annual Hard Rock Hell, niftily sub-titled “The Dragon’s Ball”, has been finalised and it has shaped up magnificently.

The 48-hour maelstrom of rock and metal at the UK’s will take place on 5-7 December 2008 at the only rock ‘n’ roll bootcamp, located at Pontin’s, Prestatyn Sands in North Wales.

There are few things more fun that hard rocking whilst hard boozing in a Pontin’s – especially when you don’t need to worry about your parents finding out. We know this from last year’s inaugural and hugely successful HRH.

While we have the mighty Black Label Society and Thin Lizzy headlining the Classic Rock Stage, there are some very exciting developments on the Radio 1/Metal Hammer Stage as the Radio 1 Rock Show’s Daniel P Carter curates.

Carter is going to showcase some Thrash Hits .com favourites from the emerging rock scene including sets from Canadian rising stars Cancer Bats as well as Brighton heavyweights Johnny Truant and the mighty The Ghost Of A Thousand.

Tickets, including entry to the festival, accommodation and car parking, start from as little as £90 if you are prepared to share (destroy) a chalet with six other headbanging buddies. Find out more at HardRockHell.com.

Nickelback Chad Kroeger Roadrunner Records Thrash Hits

A whole bunch of new albums have been announced these past few days. The most exciting has to be Trvium’s fourth full-length effort, Shogun. Unleashed on 29 September 2008 through Roadrunner Records ahead of their co-headline Unholy Alliance tour with Slayer, early reports suggest that they’re back to actually sounding like Trivium and that it’s rather a good album.

Undoubtedly less exciting but definitely more unit-shifting is the announcement that dour, 12 million-selling alt-metallers Staind have joined the Roadrunner stable. Their sixth album, The Illusion Of Progress is released on 8 September 2008, just before they tour arenas with their new labelmates, Nickelback (inexplicably pictured above).

Something that Thrash Hits .com is definitely looking forward to is the debut album from Rolo Tomassi. Recently signed to Hassle Records – home to Alexisonfire, Cancer Bats and Juliette & The Licks among others – Hysterics will be released on 22 September 2008 with a sweat-drenched free launch party that day at London’s Old Blue Last.

The best tour that we’ve heard about has Australian metalcore masters Parkway Drive and Boston legends Unearth headlining it this November. The Never Say Die Tour also has Architects, Protest The Hero, Whitechapel and Carnifex frequenting some odd parts of the country.

Kentucky’s Black Stone Cherry are a band that are clearly hitting both sides of the rock fence. Having performed at both Isle Of Wight and Download Festival on the same weekend, they have announced a new album, Folklore And Superstition to be released on 18 August 2008 via Roadrunner Records. Currently supporting Def Leppard and Whitesnake on their arena tour, BSC have announced winter dates.

Emo kings Hawthorne Heights are staying busy in preparation for the release of their third album, Fragile Future on 4 August 2008 through Victory Records. They will be touring with Linkin Park on the Projekt Revolution tour across the US from 16 July to 27 August. A UK tour is threatened later in the year.
