Punkspring 2013 Weezer Thrash Hits

Most of our readers might not be familiar with the name Will Beardmore, but he’s the guy working feverishly behind the scenes on the long-awaited, much-trumped, and forever-delayed Thrash Hits redesign (and boy, is it looking good). He’s on holiday right now, mucking about over in Japan, so when he said he’d been to Punkspring festival out there….well, what sort of a music website would we be if we turned down a review?

Is there anything better than a Thrash Hits Festival Splash Page? Yeah, loads of things but you won’t find the best online festival coverage on any of them. You’ll find that right here.

All our work from Sonisphere Festival 2011 is going be linked to from this page (eventually), so give it a bookmark or just don’t close it, because it’s all you’re going to need. Individual band coverage (interviews, photos, setlists and some tiny reviews), rumours, drinking games, stage times, dodgy photos of as many sexy ladies in various states of safe-for-work undress as we can legitimately get away with? It’s all here.

Sonisphere have responded to last week’s 20-band announcement from Download Festival, by announcing a trio of the most sought-after acts playing the festival circuit this summer – Architects, Weezer and Airbourne – as well as one of the bands that’s a cornerstone of the entire Big Four legacy: Diamond Head.

Sunday Spotify Slaylist: Really Commercial Reading & Leeds Festival 2010

August 22nd, 2010

How in the name of all that’s unholy did Reading and Leeds Festivals come around so quickly? The festival that traditionally marks the end of the UK festival season for those of the rock’n’roll persuasion (well, it did until Offset instigated their badass Hardcore stage) is next weekend – so it’s time for our annual Slaylist in honour of rock’n’roll’s most commercial piss-up in a field.

Wait…what? THAT’s the Reading/Leeds Festival line-up?

March 30th, 2010

Believe it or not, Reading & Leeds Festival 2010 have already announced a more controversial line-up than Download and Sonisphere put together. Hugh Platt explains why.

Holy fuck! We guess you’ve seen the initial Reading and Leeds Festival line-up announcements by now, and we’ll admit that we are surprised. We normally like to smugly stroke our beards at impending festival announcements, safe in the knowledge of what’s about to be revealed is either a) underwhelming, b) already pre-leaked to near-pointlessness, or c) of absolutely no interest whatsoever.

But Reading and Leeds Festivals this year have already gone beyond expectations.

It was only last year when that Weezer released their sixth studio- and third eponymous album (dubbed The Red Album by fans and critics alike), but now they’re back with Raditude, the album Rivers Cuomo should never have written.

Top 5: Biffy Clyro – Simon Neil chooses his Top 5 Rock Eccentrics

December 2nd, 2008

Biffy Clyro singer/guitarist Simon Neil took the time to have a chat with Anne Waites about his Top 5 favourite eccentrics in the world of rock. We agreed that there are a lot and that beards are very important.

Rivers Cuomo, Weezer
“He went through the huge beard phase, tried to deconstruct the technique of writing a pop song, sat in his room painted black for three years, realised he didn’t want to do it and now he plays soccer and he’s letting the other guys in the band write songs. He’s probably my favourite eccentric ever.”

Axl Rose, Guns N’ Roses
“Total genius! I think I’m the only person in the world that still rates Axl Rose. I’m mega excited about the new Guns N’ Roses album. He’s the only person that could spend 50 million dollars of a record label’s money. That’s something brilliant in my eyes. It’s shaped up to be a corking record.”

Unreleased Weezer track ‘found’ on YouTube

June 25th, 2008

Weezer Rivers Cuomo Thrash Hits

Eager web trawlers seemed to have landed a huge Weezer-sized catch today as they discovered what they thought was a brand new, unreleased track from the Californian emo pioneers.

However, the song, titled ‘Turnin’, Turnin” was confirmed by a label spokesman as a genuine Weezer or Rivers Cuomo song and is actually the song Weezer have been writing with their fans as part of the YouTube “Write a song with Rivers” blogs.

Being on YouTube, there is some great video action involved. Beginning with just a picture of Rivers Cuomo & co’s latest self-titled album which has come to be known as ‘The Red Album’ because the cover is red, it continues to include some of the greatest Premiership goals… ever.
