Death. Taxes. The appetite of Europeans for over-the-top folk metal about trolls. Some things are inevitable, insatiable, and incapable of being conquered by man’s attempts to surpass them. We think civilisation is a good few years away from developing technology and social compacts necessary to defeat the former two of those three, but the third? Tough tits – we’re going to help perpetuate that one by giving away a pair of tickets to the London date of Finntroll’s current European tour.

Soon after we posted a piece pondering the future of festivals once the heritage rock and metal bands of the past 40 years retire, the still mighty Black Sabbath announced that they would be headlining an all-star cast including Faith No More, Motörhead and Soundgarden. Headlining the fourth stage, however, is a somewhat younger band: Rise To Remain.

You like The Defiled, right? We imagine you must do, because you’ve started reading this post about them. We imagine you’re also aware they’re currently on tour across the UK right now, and given that the title of this post is “WIN! Two tickets to see The Defiled on their UK tour that’s happening RIGHT NOW”, you’re pretty damn interested in going along to it.

Next week, Yorkshire’s gloomiest, those not-so-cheeky chaps in Paradise Lost, are releasing Tragic Illusion 25 (The Rarites) – a brand spanking-new collection of rarities taken from throughout their 25 year-long career. There’s a new song and a couple of re-records in there too, and it’s a pretty damn sweet package. In order to mark its release (and encourage you to go pick up a copy of Tragic Illusion 25 (The Rarities)), Paradise Lost have given us a copy of every bloody album they’ve ever recorded to give away to one lucky, lucky, son-of-a-gun reader of Thrash Hits.

We’ve got a pair of tickets to give away to Gallows’ Reading & Leeds Festival teeny weeny warm-up gig on Thursday night (22 August 2013) in London at The Macbeth in Hoxton, which is a very cool venue in east London that is under threat of closure because people have moved in next door and are complaining about the noise levels.
That’s right. Someone has moved in next to a live music venue and are annoyed that it’s noisy. Idiots.

Those not-so-cheeky Swedish chappies, Watain, are putting out their long-awaited fifth studio album today. It’s called The Wild Hunt. It’s already caused controversy among black metal fans for playing against type. We even heard someone call it “Watain’s Black album“. Oo-er. Anyway, they’ve given us some stuff to give away to you, our loyal readers, to mark its release into the big bad world.
The Highbury Garage is 20 years old, so they want to give YOU two tickets to see Pelican tomorrow night
July 16th, 2013
It’d be fair to say that the The Garage in Highbury has been a pretty damn important venue in the lives of a fair majority of the Thrash Hits team. It was there many years ago as spotty teenagers that the rock’n’roll bug really bit us, when we witnessed One Minute Silence spark a near-riot there (the result of which was the then-owners of the venue banning the band from their network of venues for years). Well, The Garage may have changed hands since then, but it’s grown up with us – since those day darks The Garage has gone through a snazzy refit, and this month they’re celebrating it’s 20th anniversary this month. To mark this occasion, not only are there a load of pretty damn awesome gigs going on at the venue, but they’ve given us a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky Thrash Hits reader to Pelican’s headline show there on Wednesday night. Bloody hell, that’s tomorrow!
