Best of 2013: Top 6 Opinion

January 14th, 2014

By pretty much any metric we care to think about, 2013 was a great year for Thrash Hits. If we look over the raw numbers, it was our most successful year ever, with more people reading the site, more people coming back to the site, and more people sticking around and actually reading our stuff than ever before. Seeing how every other website these days seems to be degenerating to nothing more than clickbait listicles with “You won’t believe…”-style headlines, we think that last point is of particular importance.

Before we really get our teeth into 2014, we thought we’d make our holiday slacking last another couple of days by looking back at the content from the last twelve months that helped make it our best ever year. First up: our top 6 opinion pieces.

Best of 2013: Top 6 Editorial

January 13th, 2014

Reviews, interviews, and the like are our bread and butter – as much as we like our giant, sprawling, controversy-stirring opinion pieces, it’d be knackering if that’s all we did. Today we’re going to look back at our biggest reviews and interviews of 2013 – and by “biggest”, we mean the ones that the most people read. Oh, and reveal what was the most popular entry in our high-brow Heavy Metal Sandwich series. Just because.

Best of 2013: Top 6 Jared Leto articles

January 12th, 2014

We’ve got a “difficult” relationship with Jared Leto, millionaire movie star and frontman/founder of the inexplicably popular 30 Seconds To Mars. On the one hand, he provides a never-ending conveyor belt of idiocy, pomposity, prima donna behaviour that we never cease tiring taking the piss out of. On the other hand, he’s the millionaire movie star and frontman/founder of the inexplicably popular 30 Seconds To Mars, with a fanbase that relentlessly trawls the internet for mentions of his name, defends even the most arrogant and insulting behaviour of their idol as if it was no more bizarre than making a sandwich, and adds an extra layer of zero-self-awareness comedy to everything we write about the guy.

Wait, what was the downside of Jared Leto’s Wrongs again? Ah, forget it, here’s our Top 6 Favourite Jared Leto moments of 2013.

Best of 2013: Top 6 News

January 11th, 2014

We spell it out clear as day in our ‘About’ page – Thrash Hits is not a new blog. It’s the very first sentence in our ‘About’ page. If we wanted to just regurgitate the hundreds of meaningless press releases that arrive in our inboxes every day, we’d go work for one of those other, nowhere-near-as-good-as-Thrash-Hits websites. You really want another site where you can read the same story over and over again, with nothing new added to it other than just a slightly-differemt-flavour of snark?

So yeah, we might not be a news site, but we still post news stories every now and again. Sometimes it’s because a news story is too big to ignore, sometimes it’s because we’ve gone and done some actual journalism and discovered something all on our own. Sometimes it’s just that we found something we really liked and wanted more of you to know about it. Here are six of our most-viewed from 2013*.

Sunday Slaylist: The Best of 2013

December 29th, 2013

2013 AOTY Thrash Hits Albums of the Year

The end of the year is here. Pretty much everything that’s going to be released is now out, and barring any late breaking oh-my-God-is-that-actually-happening style news stories, 2013 is done and dusted. And with the convenient if entirely arbitrary transition from one year to the next a mere 48 hours away, we’re dedicating the final Sunday Spotify Slaylist of 2013 to the records that we loved the most this year.
