We’ve reached the mid-point of our retrospective across the 25 year history of Earache Records, and today we’re revisiting our own formative years with the label – that confusing period for metal from the late 90s through to the dawn of the new millenium. Today we’re tacking records from Iron Monkey, Cathedral, AxCx, Decapitated and….err….Mortiis, so it does go to show that not the entire metal world was embracing wallet chains and baggy jeans during this era.

Earache Is 25 Part 2 Thrash Hits

It’s Day 2 of our retrospective across the 25 years of Earache Records, and today we’re charging through the mid-1990s with records from Brutal Truth, Sleep, Fudge Tunnel, Pitchshifter and At The Gates. Today we’ve even grabbed some expert opinions from some of the people who were working at the label at the time of the release, as well as some of the musicians who’ve felt the influence of these records right down to their riff-soaked bones.

Earache Is 25 Part 1 Thrash Hits

Earache Records, the stalwart indie label of British metal, is 25 years old. That’s older than a good proportion of our readership. Over two and a half decades, Earache has put out hundreds of records, including more than a few bona fide classics in almost every major subgenre of metal. We can’t let such a momentous anniversary go unremarked upon, so for the rest of this week, we’re going to be looking back over the entire Earache back catalogue and revisit some of our favourite – and the label’s most controversial – releases from the last quarter-century.
