The Thrash Hits Podcast 012: Possibly the worst interview we’ve ever done with Evile

August 31st, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

We’ve interviewed British thrash heavyweights Evile loads over the last few years. We chatted to them in a seedy London whiskey bar just before Infected Nations came out. We’ve talked nonsense with them backstage at Sonisphere. We sat on a plush sofa and asked them questions about Five Serpent’s Teeth just before that record came out. However, none of these interviews is quite as cringeworthy as when Hugh drunkenly accosted Ol Drake and Ben Carter from the band backstage at this year’s Bloodstock Open Air. Oh, the things we do for our podcast….

The Thrash Hits Podcast 011: What is Iron Fist?

August 22nd, 2012

Iron Fist logo Thrash Hits

What is Iron Fist magazine? Well, the short answer is that it’s the brand spanking new metal magazine for die-hard metallers, coming at you from September 2012. The long answer is what you’ll get when you listen to our interview with Louise Brown, head-honcho of Iron Fist (and former editor of Terrorizer to boot), which Hugh semi-drunkenly conducted with her about this new project after cornering her at Bloodstock Open Air 2012..

The Thrash Hits Podcast 010: Bloodstock Open Air 2012 REVIEWED

August 20th, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

With Bloodstock Open Air 2012 now over, Hugh Platt and Tom Dare have reconvened in the studio to look back at the highs and lows of Thrash Hits’ Bloodstock experience this year – talking about our high and lows, the winners and losers, and just what Tom was doing with a Hairy Helmet and an Old Growler on the Friday night.

We also took time out to see what nonsense MegaDave has been spouting this week, to discuss Peter Dolving’s revelations about what really went on with his split from The Haunted earlier this year, as well as a check-up on the situation with Baroness, who suffered a truly awful bus crash last week. Get well soon, guys.

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

With Bloodstock Open Air 2012 mere days away, Hugh invited Thrash Hits’ in-house black metal afficionado, Tom Dare, into the studio to break down who we think will be the big hits and misses of the UK’s trvest, kvltest, outdoor Summer festival. We also gave props out to Randy Blythe showing more class in his statement after being released from prison than 90% of the shoddy reporting surrounding his arrest, as well giving a break down of the four bands playing Thrash Hits Presents…no.3 at the Old Blue Last in November.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 008: Small But Perfectly Formed

August 2nd, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

It’s a short and (not so) sweet podcast from Raz and Hugh this week, looking at some last minute controversies surrounding Hevy Festival, the consequences of British metal bands moving to major labels, and what the impact will be of Terror deciding to boycott the Czech Republic on their forthcoming European tour in support of Randy Blythe. We might’ve been too busy being drunk and watching the Olympics this last week to prattle on for as long as usual, but that doesn’t stop it degenerating into a discussion regarding the quality of a naked arse pinned to the wall of Raz’s office. What on Earth does that mean? We guess you’re going to have to download the podcast to find out.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 007: Hevy Festival 2012 Preview

July 25th, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

This week’s podcast has Tom Doyle joinging Hugh back in the Thrash Hits studio, and this week they’re taking a long hard look at the line-up for Hevy Festival 2012. As the UK’s up-and-coming hardcore, punk and rock festival prepares for its fourth year, we’re looking at the headliners, our top picks from lower down the bill, the unusual layout for this year’s festival, as well as baselessly speculating on the potential this young festival upstart has for the future. Oh, and mouthing off about a couple of bands. Y’know – the usual.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 006: The Art of the Perfect Gig

July 18th, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

It’s been a little longer than normal between podcasts, and it’s for one simple reason – we’ve been to so many gigs since the last podcast that we simply haven’t found the time to be in the same room for long enough to record an episode. Handily, that’s the inspiration for the main topic of conversation on this week’s episode – just what is it that makes a gig great?

Did any of the gigs we’ve been too recently – including Faith No More, Pearl Jam, Baroness, Monuments, Kerouac and Sacred Mother Tongue to name but a few – made the grade as “classic” gigs? Raz and Hugh debate this question, as well as going over their all-time favourite shows.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 005: The Randy Blythe Situation

July 5th, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

Raz is once again absent (his jetsetter lifestyle means he’s off in Berlin to catch Pearl Jam), so this week Hugh is once again joined by Tom Dare, and this week by another Tom from the Thrash Hits writers roster – Tom Doyle. Yes, he’s the Tom Doyle that Lower In Atlantis threatened at headbutt that time. No, he’s not the Tom Doyle who’s a member of Don Broco.

This week’s topics of conversation include recent gigs by Evile, Decapitated and *shels, but mostly we just talk about the Randy Blythe/manslaughter situation that has gotten most of the metal internet up in arms one way or the other over the last 7 days.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 004: Albums of the Year (So Far)

June 29th, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

Raz is back in “the studio” for this week’s podcast, where he joins Hugh in looking back at the best albums of 2012 so far. There’ll be bands you’ve heard of, bands you’ve never heard of, and bands you’ve criminally under-rated up until now because they had stupid names. We’ve got the lot.

The Thrash Hits Podcast 003: Nergal vs Kate Nash

June 21st, 2012

Thrash Hits Podcast 1

Raz couldn’t make it to “the studio” for episode 003 of the Thrash Hits podcast, so this week we got everyone’s favourite long-haired fantasy-nerd hipster, Tom Dare, to sit in instead. This week’s topics see us breaking down the new albums from Gojira and Linkin Park, mouthing off about Kate Nash’s…errr…new direction, and see us manage to say something so offensive we felt the need to bleep it out. It’s all downhill from here.
