Say hello to the new year with the best (worst) heavy metal action film EVER

January 1st, 2015

Urgh. You’re probably hungover if you’re reading this. We know there’s nothing anyone wants to do on New Year’s Day other than curl up on the sofa and groan slowly to themselves, cursing whatever lapse in judgment made them agree to do those extra tequila shots just before midnight.

That’s what we’re doing, anyway. We’re trying to soothe our pain away by re-watching the best (worst) heavy metal action film of all time, the superb (awful) Turbulence 3: Heavy Metal. Some dodgy character has uploaded the whole bloody thing to YouTube, so you can join us in this cinematic trip into madness.

What is Turbulence 3: Heavy Metal about?

The long answer: Satanic Marily-Manson-copycat rockstar, Slade Craven, for reason that are never adequately explained, is playing his final ever concert. For more reasons that are never explained, he’s doing it on an aeroplane, and streaming it over the internet. Well, he would, if a gang of Satanic hijackers didn’t have other plans. The only person who can save the plane, the passengers, and maybe even reality as we know it? Slade Craven.

The short answer: the best goddamn B-movie schlock about heavy metal there is.

Shut up and watch this. Thank us later. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thrash Hits TV: Raging Speedhorn – new album EXCLUSIVE!!1!

November 28th, 2014

Ahh, it’s like an early Christmas gift! We’ve made no secret how much we’re fanboys for Raging Speedhorn. We’ve gone on about them so much that they sent us a little video message before they head out on their first UK tour in damn-near nearly a decade kicks off next week. The whole bloody band pipes up to discuss their comeback, their upcoming tour, and – BEST OF ALL – some details about the brand new music coming from the band in 2015.

PREMIERE! The video to Warpaint Is Not A Mask by Nice Hooves puts so many crap videos to shame

August 6th, 2014

Nice Hooves 2014 Thrash Hits

Do you know why we hardly ever do “video premieres” or “exclusive first play!!!11!” features very often on Thrash Hits? It’s because they’re rubbish. “Exclusive”, you say? For all of five minutes until someone reposts it elsewhere. They’re nothing more than pissing contests and territorial chest-beating from both the bands and media that both demand and capitulate to them.

That’s why we only do them for stuff we really, really like. That’s why we’re doing it for ‘Warpaint Is Not A Mask’, the brand new and incredible video from Detroit’s Nice Hooves.

Thrash Hits TV: Thy Art Is Murder vs #LinkinNARC

July 12th, 2014

Thy Art Is Murder Download Festival 2014 by Ben Gibson Thrash Hits

When we went to Download Festival 2014, we had planned on asking all the bands what they would do if Linkin Park ratted them out to the cops (not sure what we’re talking about? Here’s a link to Sublime With Rome’s version of what happened when they played a festival with Chester Bennington and co at a festival in the USA). However, we got distracted by drinking booze and watching bands and only did a handful. The best of our videos – by far – was when we caught up with our old friends CJ McMahon and Lee Stanton from mighty Australian deathcore monsters Thy Art Is Murder what they would do if Linkin Park grassed them up to the fuzz.

PREMIERE! Visions – These Days

October 8th, 2013

Visions 2013 Thrash Hits

You’ve seen Office Space, right? The criminally under-rated 1999 Mike Judge film? The rather excellent Visions have. They’ve seen it so many times they decided to base their video for their new track, ‘These Days’, around the famous scene from the film where Peter, Michael and Samir kick the everloving bejesus out of a less than worthless piece of office machinery. Only Visions‘ version has a killer tech-flecked bit of metal soundtracking it.

Thrash Hits TV: Carcass discuss having Ken Owen on backing vocals for Surgical Steel

September 17th, 2013

Carcass 2013 promo photo Thrash Hits

The new album from Carcass, the mighty Surgical Steel, is officially out this week. To mark the occasion, the guys over at Nuclear Blast have bunged us an exclusive interview clip of Jeff Walker and Bill Steer talking about what it was like to get Ken Own, the original drummer of Carcass, in to the studio to record some backing tracks for the album. FYI, newcomers, back in 1999, Ken Owen suffered from a brain haemorrhage that forced him to spent ten months in hospital, and pretty much forced him to stop drumming.

Thrash Hits TV: Thy Art Is Murder vs joggers

July 17th, 2013

CJ McMahon of Thy Art Is Murder by Ben Gibson Thrash Hits

British people have a reputation for being polite, so why did some jogger guy behind the Highbury Garage decide to try to ruin our interview with CJ McMahon of Thy Art Is Murder? We were just minding our own business, filming an interview with the bearded Australian deathcore frontman, and this guy goes out of his way to run between us and the camera. What a bell-end.

Those Finnish widdlers of all things guitar, Children of Bodom, have a new studio album coming out next month. It’s their eighth LP. Eighth! It’s called Halo Of Blood, and they’re pretty damn pleased with it. So much so that they sent us a video of frontman/guitarist Alexi Laiho and bassist/backing vocalist Henkka Seppälä telling us what their favourite individual tracks from the album are.
