Last week it was Asking Alexandria, this week it’s A Day To Remember – this autumn really is packed to the guts with bands consolidating their status at the top of the Kerrangcore tree with some of the biggest tours they’ve ever mounted. ADTR are even big enough to bring Radio 1-playlist botherers, Lower Than Atlantis, along as their main support. We made sure our man in Brighton, Mike Burnell, was there to photograph the both of them.

Let’s talk about progression. Even as recently as 2009, the American sextet had wacky song titles which bore no relation to the subject matter. The Devil Wears Prada may have been making some stunningly technical metalcore but they were a joke. It’s time to stop laughing.
Live: A Day To Remember @ Brixton Academy – 05 February 2011
February 9th, 2011
Hardcore shows are meant to be in a grotty little room under a pub. Add a bit of pop-punk, however, and you get to the Brixton Academy. That’s what A Day To Remember have done, so we went down to see what all the fuss is about.

The first thing to note about Attack of the Killer B-sides is how lightweight it appears to be as a release. Of the four tracks here two are cover versions (both of which have appeared on previous releases) and another is just an acoustic version of a previously-released song. As a result there is only one song that fans of A Day To Remember probably haven’t already heard and you can’t help but wonder what value for money this represents as a purely musical proposition.

“It’s not easy making a name for yourself.” So states the opening line of ‘The Downfall Of Us All’, the first song on A Day To Remember’s second album. Of course, it helps a little if you record a rocked-up version of a massively popular song (in their case, Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Since U Been Gone’) and inject it into general public’s consciousness.
