By now you’ve read the one list that really matters – the Thrash Hits Top 10 Albums of 2014 – but now we’re giving you the opportunity to delve a little deeper into the minds that created it. Here are the unedited, unspoiled and unsullied opinions that we crunched together to distill our Top 10. We asked our contributors to tell us what their personal Top 10 records of the last 12 months were, and to justify their top choice to us.

Did you know that Adam Graham, self-confessed Token White Guy in Japan’s almighty FACT, is a secret Taylor Swift fan? Actually, that’s not true at all. Adam makes absolutely no secret of his Taylor Swift fandom whatsoever. With the world’s biggest popstar releasing her new album 1989 this week, we asked Adam to explain himself – so take it away, Adam…
Cream coloured ponies and crisp apple strudels, doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles, wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings; these are a few of my favourite things (actually, scrap the noodles). I have a wealth of favourite things, a veritable cornucopia one might say. However, floating above them all on a cloud of angel’s hair and baby’s breath, a beauteous and radiant Aphrodite in human form, is the indomitable, the inimitable Miss Taylor Swift.

Here’s the second column from Adam Graham – the “token white guy” (his words, not ours) in Japanese mosh heroes, FACT. For content, our man in Japan is still banking on Japan being weirder than what you’re used to. It appears to be working. We’re hopeful of plenty more too…
Japan’s a funny old country. I don’t mean this in a sneering, xenophobic, “Oh, look at the silly foreigners,” kind of way – I am extremely fortunate to live here and enjoy the hospitality of the country and its people. What I mean is that from a completely objective standpoint a lot of things go down here that seem to teeter on the edge of sanity.
I’m talking Pepsi-flavoured Cheetos and nightmare-inducing “cute” mascots (can you guess what this fella is selling?!). Oh and hey, you’re worried about a little bit of horsemeat finding its way into your hamburger? What about if it found its way into your ice cream? ON PURPOSE.

Here are two entirely unrelated pieces of information. Our developer, Will, went to Japan earlier this year and brought back a book of photos of women licking doorknobs. Our friend, Adam Graham, plays in the band FACT as the “token white guy” (his words, not ours). What’s our framework for this? Well, Japan can be strange, and we’ve got a man right in the middle of it. BRING ON THE GUEST COLUMN.
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the first instalment of what may or may not become a semi-regular column about the weird world of metal in Japan, popping up unexpectedly amongst the hallowed electronic pages of Thrash Hits, like cod sperm sacs amidst an otherwise harmless array of bar snacks (this happened). I only hope that revisiting this column at your leisure proves to be a less violently gut-wrenching experience for you than revisiting said sperm sacs was for me, mere hours after originally consuming them.
