I’ve spent a few days listening to The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here on and off and find myself struggling to say anything about if of any real worth other than, “It’s just not as good as Black Gives Way To Blue.” I mean… what more, as the reader and potential purchaser of the album, do you really need?

Oh look. Another reunited band from the 1990s. The difference with this one is that Vision of Disorder have been back for a few years now, their popularity hasn’t had a mysterious retrospective inflation (they’re playing the 500-capacity Underworld in London, Refused played the 2500-capacity Forum) and aren’t one of those bands all of their successors in the hardcore scene name-check in every interview, despite how influential they’ve actually been. Which is daft, because VoD were fucking great first time around, and they’ve come back with an arse-booting record.

Vintage Video: Alice In Chains – Nutshell (MTV Unplugged)

Alice In Chains Layne Staley MTV Unplugged Thrash Hits

Ten years ago today, it is generally believed that Layne Staley, frontman with Alice In Chains, died as a result of injecting himself with a mixture of heroin and cocaine. He was juts 34 years old when he died. While Alice In Chains would later reform almost a decade later, it is their early albums with Staley on vocals that placed the band into the hearts of fans around the world. And it’s with one of Staley’s last ever recordings with the band that we’re choosing to remember him by on this, the anniversary of his death.

March 27th 2008. After a 40 minute wait, in true egocentric rock’n’roll style, Velvet Revolver finally took to the stage at the Brighton Centre for what proved to be their final performance, and this reviewer’s eyes bore witness to something quite magical. Sadly, Velvet Revolver was a short-lived fairytale, one that ended with yet another stay in the state pen from front man Scott Weiland, and his subsequent departure from VR to reunite with his real family – Stone Temple Pilots.

It’s Metal Mark’s birthday today so you should read this month’s blog from him

March 16th, 2010

It really is Metal Mark‘s birthday today. He’s at work today and he’s getting drunk tonight. He’s at work tomorrow as well. It’s what he does. This is why you really ought to read about his Heavy Metal life.

Hola Metal Friends! So February is the shortest month of the year, yet in Atlanta this year, it was packed full of shows each week. I literally only had two days where I wasn’t at a show, editing, at a party, drinking until the room was spinning, or working. As tired as I am, it was a great month for metal fans here and this is my report….. from what I can remember.
