Today we welcome Gavin Lloyd back for his column on pop-punk, nu-metal, metalcore, and anything other microgenre you were into as a teenager that you’re secretly not nearly as embarrassed about as you like to make out you are on social media.

With the August Bank Holiday weekend rapidly approaching, Reading & Leeds Festivals are once again upon us. As with every year, Reading & Leeds have a bit fat dollop of heaviness in among the landfill indie, so for this week’s Sunday Slaylist we’ve put together a Spotify playlist of the hardest and heaviest from their 2013 line-ups.

Matt Skiba And The Sekrets

Regular readers of Thrash Hits will remember we ran this photo a while ago, with a certain amount of disbelief. With his penchant for wry, dark romance, if Alkaline Trio’s frontman took a cue from any Lost Boys, our money would’ve been on these ones. Our Time Down Here
Take Flight Records

It’s been nearly a decade since the heydays of London’s Household Name Records, and though a question mark may loom over the label’s legacy, it’s certainly been a long time since the UK has held its native punk bands with the same affinity as their stateside cousins. Linkin Park are the biggest selling band of this decade, nay, century. That’s a statement that really hurts, isn’t it. They’ve sold more records than Metallica, Iron Maiden or even The Beatles. Yes, feel free to weep because there doesn’t seem like much to celebrate. Right? WRONG!
There really have been some amazing bands, albums and songs that have have had an amazing effect over the past ten years and we’re going to focus on them with loads of celebratory articles about them. And this is where you can find all of them. Handy, eh?

Yes, there might be a member of Gallows in newly-formed punk rockers, Spy Catcher but there’s a whole load more to this band than just that. We caught up with frontman Steve Sears to talk about his new band.
