Pete Long is back with another round-up/overview of what’s been going on in Doom metal over the last few and over the next few weeks….

In just four weeks time, arguably the “most metal” (whatever that means) of the UK summer festival season takes place: Bloodstock Open Air. To get ourselves in the mood for a weekend of wearing denim vests and drinking mead out of horn, we’ve put together a gigantic Sunday Spotify Slaylist, featuring the best of this year’s line-up.

There you go – yet another festival announcement, and yet another headline that pretty much tells the entire story. Lamb of God will be headlining the Saturday night of Bloodstock Open Air 2013, in what’s being billed as their only UK of next year.
Also added to the bill today were Dark Funeral and Amorphis. These three new additions join the previously announced King Diamond, Anthrax, Fozzy, Firewind and Accept over on the bill over at Catton Hall, which in 2013 takes place on the weekend of 08-11 August. Early Bird Weekend Tickets are on sale now for the bargain price of £100, so if you want to save a few quid for one of the many, many beers you can buy at Bloodstock, now would be a good time to cough up some cash.

The Beginning Of Times

The phrase “new Amorphis album” is one of the most reassuring things you can hear in modern metal. You can pretty much guarantee that it’s going to be one shade of good or another, and it quickly becomes apparent that Amorphis have truly exceeded even their own consistently high standards in every aspect with The Beginning Of Times.
