While the latest crop of thrash revivalists have released some fine records, with the Big Four tour and the old greats like Exodus, Testament and Overkill back in fine fettle, there’s noticeable problem from examining the records from the new bands. While there are some fine albums, but no one has written a The New Order, a Forbidden Evil or most appropriately a Bonded By Blood. The new generation is still marathon distances behind the bands responsible for those records, and bands like Bonded By Blood still need to convince us this latest movement hasn’t run out of steam.

You have to feel for Gary Holt a little. Despite being there right at the beginning, and being the central figure of a band all of the major players in thrash – Kerry King and Scott Ian being just two – cite as one of the most important in the movement, Exodus have never quite achieved the wide popularity of the Big Four, and never quite fulfilling the destiny their debut suggested they were set for.

It’s not a stretch to imagine that Bonded By Blood are Exodus fans. There’s a tshirt in the photo, at the back. Drummer, Carlos Regalado and guitarist, Juan Juarez spill the thrash metal beans.

What was your highlight of 2008?
J: I think it would have to be the Barcelona Spain show that was part of the Thrashing Like A Maniac show with Gama Bomb and Sworn Amongst. It was called the Thrash em All Festival I believe. The crowd there was just amazing, loads drinking and pitting. It was one of the shows where we felt more at home because we understood everyone there, which was cool.
