WIN: a pair of tickets to Arcane Roots’ Kerrang! Awards show at the Camden Barfly

May 25th, 2012

Arcane Roots are the kind of band you should like if you like the clever-clever bits of Biffy Clyro (but not the nice-nice bits about Biffy Clyro) combined with the sharper bits of Muse (without the vibrato histrionics that annoy us about Muse). They’ve recently signed to PIAS, and next month they’re put out a mini album by the name of Left Fire. And to celebrate that fact, they’ve given us a pair of tickets to give away to their Kerrang! Awards Show gig at the Camden Barfly on 05 June 2012. You’d have to be pretty lazy not to click the ‘Read More’ button and to enter our competition to win them. Unless you live somewhere that isn’t near London, we suppose.

Whatever. It’s free gig tickets. Stop complaining and enter the competition!

Touché Amoré at the Camden Barfly c/o Ben Gibson 27 February 2012 Thrash Hits

There are a lot of things that are good about Touché Amoré. One of the good things about Touché Amoré is that they force lazy music bloggers to learn the keyboard-shortcut for typing “é”. Another, perhaps more relevant, good thing about Touché Amoré, is that they are a bloody awesome live band. That’s why we had Ben Gibson go and photograph them doing just that at the Camden Barfly earlier this week, at any rate.

Live: Kerbdog, Slaves To Gravity & The Computers @ London Camden Barfly – 16 August 2008

August 18th, 2008

After playing a few reunion shows in Ireland in 2007, Kerbdog agreed to play a Kerrang! Awards Show at the Barfly. Lynsey Wright was there to take some photos and report on a welcome return.

Cormac Battle Kerbdog Kerrang Awards show Thrash Hits

The Computers’ set is short, sharp and like a punch in the gut. Shrieks, screams and stop-gap drums make for an exciting show from this Devonshire band.

Second up is alt-rock band, Slaves to Gravity, formed from the ashes of the now defunct band, The*Ga*Ga*s, their power riffs and ballad-like songs can’t help but seem a little wasted on somewhere as small as the Barfly. It’s stadium rock at its best, err… minus the stadium!

After “10-odd years”, as front man, Cormac Battle, puts it, Kerbdog are back. And “who would’ve thought it?!” Yes, quite right Cormac, who would’ve?! It’s been a long time since the Irish trio graced the stage but the fans still flock in their herds to see if they’ve still got the magic.

At the Barfly in Camden they prove that they do. They churn out their best hits to chants of, “UK Tour!” from the audience and are bombarded with cheers before, throughout and after the set.

Crowd-surfers break their glasses and almost their bones as Kerbdog rock as much as middle-aged men can rock on a Saturday night in London.

Middle-aged or not, it’s clear that Kerbdog are still very much in demand.
