Is Wintersun’s new album the most important metal release of 2012?

November 26th, 2012

Thrash Hits’ resident Euro metal geek Tom Dare is having great fun with the long, long, long-awaited second album from Finnish widdlers Wintersun. But he thinks it’s much more than that – he thinks it’s a landmark.

When Wintersun announced back in 2006 that work  composing album number two was underway, hopes were high. But as the years rolled by, Time seemingly joined the likes of Chinese Democracy and the mythical third Necrophagist record in the “when hell freezes over”-stakes when it came to a realistic ETA, fears increased. “Were they polishing a turd?”, we wondered. Had they been far too ambitious for their own good? So what a shock it was when Time I finally arrived, not just seriously good, but as one of the most important metal releases of its generation. Guns N’ Roses
Chinese Democracy

by Raziq Rauf

How much idle conjecture has there been over Chinese Democracy? Axl Rose has had 17 years to turn this vanity project into absolute gold. It has to be a masterpiece. It has to be the best album of the 21st century.

I say “vanity project” because Rose is the only founding member remaining in Guns N’ Roses. I say “vanity project” because he has taken 17 bloody years to write one album!

Every Time I Die write to Axl Rose & Guns N’ Roses

November 4th, 2008

Every Time I Die

Every Time I Die are about to embark upon their very first headline tour of their cracking latest album, The Big Dirty but they reckon Axl’s stealing their thunder.

They wrote him a letter.

“Thanks a shitload Axl. You haven’t put out a GNR record in 10 years and the month we decide to go out on a tour cleverly named NOVEMBER REIGN, you find it prime time for “Chinese Democracy” to hit shelves. You couldn’t have waited another 3 weeks? We haven’t done a single headlining tour on “The Big Dirty” so this was a really big deal for us. You should have seen Josh’s face light up when he thought of the name. The guys in THE BRONX and STICK TO YOU GUNS (sic) were happier than pigs in shit to be a part of this epic journey across the east coast. But you just couldn’t stand to see us happy.

Buckethead probably wouldn’t have stolen our thunder. And when I met Matt Sorum at House of Guitars like 16 years ago, he came off as a real nice dude who would be glad to let us have November to ourselves. Well fuck it, we’re doing it anyways. Starting November 1st, we’re going to Quebec City! and then we’re going to Milwaukee! And then we’re going to JOPLIN AND NASHVILLE AND RICHMOND AND THEN WE’RE GOING TO FARMINGDALE TO TAKE BACK THE CRAZY DONKEY!!! BEYYYYYAAAWWW!!!!!

love every time i die.

ps. you rock.”

The question we’re asking ourselves at Thrash Hits .com is, “Do Guns N’ Roses rock? Do they? Really?”

We’re sure you’ve heard the title track from Chinese Democracy on the radio already. We reckon it sounds like ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’ by The Darkness done by Marilyn Manson? What the hell happened???

Following Mötley Crüe’s lead, Guns N’ Roses are to release a song through a computer.

The sequel to the hugely popular Rock Band game will include ‘Shackler’s Revenge’, a track from Chinese Democracy – probably the most anticipated album of recent rock memory.

This news is likely to be confirmed today (July 14) but broke it earlier quoting anonymous individuals close to the deal as sources.

The song’s inclusion in Rock Band 2 is a hint that the new album will be out this autumn, finally putting an end to years of delays, although a confirmed release date is yet to be announced.
