2008 into 2009: Evita

Bristol metallers, Evita, are currently off recording their debut album in preparation for touring their balls off in 2009. We caught up with guitarist, Daniel Cranney, to see how 2008 was for them.

What was your highlight of 2008?
It was a really good year in general; we had a lot of fun and met some great people. It amazing signing to Basick Records, going on tour in Europe in August, and going into the studio to record our debut album.

What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
We bought a new van (called Hamish), and in died within 2 months, so it was a pretty massive waste of money. Also, we were driving back from Leeds in our mate’s car and the wheel came off on the motorway when we were going 70mph. That was pretty scary. [Read more →]

2008 into 2009: Architects

What was your highlight of 2008?
Signing to Century Media, finishing our new album and touring Europe on the Never Say Die tour – especially the London date at the Forum, which was the best show we’ve ever played as a band!

What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
There’s been some pretty rough times this year, but I’d have to say that the trailer park we stayed in one night in nowheresville, USA was a particular low point.

Touring with Comeback Kid and Shai Hulud with a week’s notice was outrageous.

What was your highlight of 2008?
Kiss at Download. Any show that has a 50-year-old man flying across the audience on a zip-wire is good in my books!

Breaking my bass in half whilst supporting Malefice at The Underworld – rest in pieces Frank.

Finally finishing our album (it took nine months!) or the Exit Ten show in Reading, great gig, great beer, great friends.

What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
My cat went missing for eight weeks but he came back… 2008 was pretty uneventful.

What was your highlight of 2008?
My personal highlight of 2008 was the Through The Noise tour with Misery Signals, Comeback Kid, Bane, Shai Hulud, Outbreak and Grave Maker. It was such a great time having a handful of some of my favourite bands all on one tour. Every night was a party.

What’s the worst thing that happened to you in 2008?
Nothing really. haha, I had pretty good luck this year (knock on wood). I’m bummed I missed the Hot Water Music reunion show in Chicago.

Hearing Zane Lowe on Radio One telling folk waiting for a Soundgarden reunion that our band could tick a few boxes.

Nearly killing my landlord’s dog in the North Downs.
