Earlier this week it transpired that Coal Chamber were reforming to play some reunion shows. It turns out Hugh Platt has an interesting angle on why this is so much bullsh*t.

Back before Thrash Hits existed, I sometimes moonlighted as an occasional crew member for a low-budget (and now defunct) music TV channel. I mainly helped out on location shoots – generally as a grip, occasionally as a soundman, and more often than not just as a general fixer. Back in late 2007, when DevilDriver were headlining the Islington Academy, we rolled up a few hours before the doors opened, ostensibly to shoot a few interview pieces with Dez Fafara, which is how the issue of Coal Chamber came up.

There can’t be many metallers who completely disapprove of DevilDriver – apart from the obvious Coal Chamber thing, it’s difficult to be cynical about Dez Fafara’s band. For almost 10 years DevilDriver have worked hard to set up their own groovy little corner in the metal market – a formidable live band with more than a few legendary circle pits to speak of – and more than a few people are rootin’ for them to make the next step following the release of their latest album, Beast.

You remember last year, just after Limp Bizkit announced they were getting back together, when all the major metal media started fretting over the possibility of a nu-metal revival? They couldn’t decide whether to be delighted or appalled, and they all endured a week of psychological constipation until metal fans shrugged, got on their the Summer, and everyone promptly forgot about “the nu-metal revivial”.

Well, everyone except a single London clubnight promoter, it seems….
